It's time to replace or update my old Camelbak Podium Chili water bottles, just want to check and see what are some of pals' alternative favorites out there...i like my podium bottles alright except the dirt trapped inside the mouth piece can be hard to reach sometimes.

I think they did a review of insulated bottles recently, an Elite model came out on top for keeping the liquid cold the longest... problem is that it is not available in the US. I think the best domestic insulated bottle was a Camelback... I think the one you referred to.

The new podium valve is excellent.

Thanks for bringing this up.
Time to shop for some fresh bottles.
Some like this size or that.
Some like this look or that.
Pics are a must however.
Thanks in advance.

The Podium Ice is the bottle you want. It has better, or more insulation than the Podium Chill. As stated above, the new valve is much improved and works very well. The new Polar bottles might be as good, but I the older ones were junk.

Anything with a Specialized Watergate type of cap is good with me!

Elite and Polar here.

Never actually used this specific one but looks pretty cool.

The new podium valve is excellent.

I agree, but it is also complex, and there are a number of nooks and crannies for crud to grow. I recently found this out when I disassembled the caps on mine.

If you're putting energy drinks with sugar in yours, I would definitely recommend disassembly and cleaning a couple times a year. I'm not sure if the lids are rated as dishwasher safe, but there are enough nooks and crannies that I'm not sure the detergent would get into all of them.

I like the really basic Purist brand with the watergate cap. They are simple, pliable, don’t tase like plastic and last a good while.

These were my fav back in the day. 3 pieces. unscrewed for easy cleaning. mix and match colors. large opening. didn't leak. soft bottle for easy squeezing and a rubberized neck so it didn't slip when grabbing it out of the cage.

they switched to a 2 piece(cap and bottle). I still have some of those, still work great.

I always use clear bottles as I want to know their clean ;)

That aside I like Zefal Sense Soft in the 800 & 650 sizes best because the soft valve is never a problem with teeth on a bump etc :)

Specialized Purist is my standard go-to summer bottle.
If not pedaling way, way, way in the outback my preference is for 22 oz / 650 ml.
Any larger and water gets too hot. I'd rather refill often with fresh icy-cold water.

I'm happy with the new style podium chill, but it really wrecks my fingers trying to get the valve on and off to clean

Timely thread as I was just thinking it's time to toss all my plastic bottles and replace them. You can only use denture cleaner so many times before it seems that they start absorbing some of that taste.

My main considerations are cold insulation and ability to thoroughly clean the squirty parts

I didn't know there was any other kind. We've got dozens of bottles, and all were free.

Man those were an inspired design but I just loved them graphically. They should do a re-do.

Hopefully, it would be gone before it gets warm.

The closest thing to a perfect bottle for me is a clear Purist with minimal or no graphics. It's surprisingly difficult to find. Bottles by Camelbak or Polar are even worse on the graphics front.

Smoke color with no graphics would also be acceptable. Black bottles show scratches too easily.

I tried these ABLOC bottles and while they have a great look and no branding, the opening at the top under the lid is way too tiny for sink washing. And the flow valve is pretty slow. I wouldn't recommend it.

For insulated I like the Podium Ice better - 2x the insulation, and really 2x the "time to melt". I haven't done hot/long rides with the new Ice (I got 2 when they came out).

I did an experiment ride with the old Chill/Ice - both types, same ride, same ice in each one, sips from each one, and I drank primarily from a 3rd bottle to avoid drinking from the first two. The Chill would be down to no ice after 1 hour in 90-95F temps and the Ice (same ride) would have bits of ice left at the 2 hour mark.
