Monday morning time suck!

Havent watched the full vid yet, but this looks like it might be a fun one to watch:

just watched the whole thing, pretty entertaining, and some familiar feelings with hitting the bonk wall hard. commentary at the end was light hearted and good too.

108 miles and 12k+ is no joke of a ride!

Not as intriguing an article headline.

One of those guys is an animal...

My last ride before wildfires turned off outside here was on my 1985 SLX Nago. No DT shifters though... ;)

Great video. Reminds me of a century ride I did in So Cal 30 years ago. But I had 39x24 gearing going for me in the mountains. 7 speed downtube shifters of course. The smog was horrible. I had something like an asthma attack from it. Couldn't catch my breath. At about 85 miles I found a grassy median and layed there for about 30 minutes. After that I could only pedal at a fast walking pace on the flats but I finished!

That was a fun video to watch, and it seems like they would both be fun companions on a bike ride.
A couple of statements struck me as a little funny, however: the guy riding the team 7-11 bike complained at how sketchy the Dura-Ace brakes and tubulars were on a descent, and later said that although vintage bikes are great, they have limitations on what you could do on them.
I needed to know that information 40 years ago.

Surprised the Serotta's still in one piece. There was one with the infamous BB crack hanging as wall art in a buddy's wine bar in Charlotte.

Ol Smilin Andy was on a resprayed Landshark in the Giro for a reason.

Don't get it, why go on a mountain pass ride with a worn out BB and a flat lands cassette. Why not change the cassette to something a bit wider when changing out the original tires and wheels. DA 7400 will easily handle 13-26T.

One with an unprepared broken bike, the other with minimal fitness?

This is the exact kind of elitist attitude that is bad for road cycling. You’re saying that someone who completes a 110 mile ride with over 12 thousand feet of climbing has “minimal fitness”?? Really?

Little to do with attitude and everything to do with preparation comparable to the adventure.

Yes, a minimal level of fitness to complete the ride they chose to go on.

Would you call me an elite attitude hiker if I suggested you not go on an overnight hike without a flashlight or light source, no difference, need to be prepared for the task or you are just looking to get yourself in trouble.

The Huffy Serotta I saw the BB had reversed threading on the fixed cup side, kinda turned me off when I saw that, other than that I love the paint job as well as the huffy concept idea

I would say install a triple while servicing the BB. Wasn´t Delgado riding a triple on the mountains? Anyway.. it´s not the first modern x vintage road bike video i see w/ the same MO: throw an older racing bike w/ the wrong gears and worn brake pads then say how much better is the new stuff. Not for me.
The line about being afraid of tubulars and rim brakes while descending? Huh? or how bad it would be to ride that bike on cobblestones.. pffft. "These bikes tend to crack.." and carbon cannondales don´t. Yeah, right.
Take a 7sp DT bike w/ a triple, 13-26, new brake pads and good tubulars on that mountain pass against any new bike, make the video and i will watch it.

if completing a 12k elevation ride in 108 miles is mimimal fitness in your book, i would be scared to ride with you.

Guess you watched a different video than I did..ya know, this one for 'entertainment'? Not exploring the minutiae of bike prep, fitness, power meter readings, check of humidity, etc...

Ya know,'entertainment'...yikes. Lighten up. I guess you don't 'get it'..
need to be prepared for the task or you are just looking to get yourself in trouble.

Considering the 'why' of this, I'd say they were prepared perfectly...entertainment.....

My last ride before wildfires turned off outside here was on my 1985 SLX Nago.

Given the date of the video (Sep 13), I'm pretty sure they were riding with low air quality. TPC is in Boulder or Denver, right? I live in the Chicago area and the wildfires are affecting our air quality a bit (enough to add a fair amount of haze to the sky and make the sun look decidedly pink in the late afternoon). I would assume it was significantly worse on the Front Range.

That's good to hear. Poking around for air quality, I stumbled on the EPA's interactive map (https://gispub.epa.gov/airnow/) which shows how bad it is in the west, but much better from Colorado east. (Seems like Colorado is lucky to have Nevada next door. :)) Current AQI map for future Paceline archeologists:
