Are my eyes deceiving me...the new Specialized SL7 has gone back to a threaded bottom bracket? That's pretty cool. Are any of the other big players doing the same?

I believe trek and specialized are reverting back to threads.

I believe trek and specialized are reverting back to threads.

The original T47 standard was based on the BB30 standard with, it's 68mm BB shell width. This standard makes it compatible with just about all crank spindles (with the appropriate cups/adapters), including square taper spindles. Specialized is using a the original 68mm width T47 standard. Trek is using T47 threads, but they are using their own proprietary width BB shell, which means it need proprietary cups/adapters, and is not compatible with all crank spindles.

Specialized isn't using a T47 standard, the SL7 has a plain ol' BSA

My 2021 Diverge has a BSA threaded BB and I love it. Was a major reason why I bought it sight unseen.

Oops! Yes, you're right. Which makes it compatible with cranks going back to the middle of the last century!

I believe my 2019 Epic (xc mtb) was the first Specialized model gone back to threaded bottom bracket. The $30 Sram Dub BSA BB has been staying creak free since day one. Love it.
