Kris - and Doug before he died - have been working on such projects for a long time. They've bought, restored, and donated more land than anyone in history.

I met them, Yvon, Rick, and others, in Patagonia a few years ago. A few days later, Doug was dead.

I'm due for another trip down there, but I've already had my first Scotland trip cancelled twice, so that will probably come first.

When I was there in December 2015 Doug and Kris Tompkins had already bought, restored, and donated 2.2 million acres to the Chilean and Argentine governments - more than any people in the history of the planet. They were on schedule to donate 3.3 million more when Doug died a few days later.

Then the Chilean government added another 10 million or so acres, depending on how you count it. That's about the size of Switzerland, or Massachusetts and New Jersey put together.

THAT, my friends, is awesome.
