OK, I wear 11.5-12 4E shoes.

11.5-12.5 / 46.5-47.5 shoes depending.

Like a deal, like fit a little better. Definitely light shoes.

The Sidi wides [mega] and my feet never got along FWIW.

My special need is crazy high insteps, reg width shoes don't close.

Ideas/suggestions??

Point the direction for +50% sales maybe. ;)

Lake Wide or X-Wide (https://lakecycling.com/pages/sizing-charts)

I have a low instep and low arch. Width wise, the "wide" in Lake's competition last (e.g. CX237/238) works for me but I have to cinch it down like crazy since there's so much volume up top. In comparison, the wide Shimano shoes have a slightly narrower "wide width", but a lower instep.

Currently 25% off at BikeTiresDirect: https://www.biketiresdirect.com/product/lake-cx238-x-wide-road-shoe

I've heard good things about Bont wide shoes too, but I haven't tried them out yet.

I have similarly wide feet. Lake Wide shoes were the best I found, but they were still too narrow. I got some custom shoes, but you might also look into Lake Extra Wide shoes. No good sales on those, though.

I'm technically a 50-4E needing a very roomy toe box as well and narrow heel. Best fit thus far are Bont Vaypor wides, second are Lake's competition last in wide, third are/were Specialized Pro Road in wide (from many years ago) and fourth Lake's sport last wide (heel a bit too roomy). Lake's wide race last is a definite no-go (too narrow), Sidi Mega's ball width is perfect, but toe box is too narrow and heel too wide.

Sidi Mega - my heel slipped too much. Both Lake and Bont work well. I'm about 264mm, so usually a 9 E or EE.

Only a 10.5 E here but FWIW my experience is the Lake wide fit is wider than Sidi Mega fit and the Lakes will better accommodate high arches too. Never tried Lake extra wides myself, but with 4E feet you might want to.

I have some CX 160s and the toe box is just ok. I extended the top loop reach with an o-ring. Something I am used to having to do, my instep is so high.

Yes, the heel was the issue with the Megas for me.

Check out this chart (https://lakecycling.com/pages/sizing-charts), Lake's competition last is quite a bit wider than their sport last (CX-160s are sport). Appears the ex-wides are only in the race last and narrower than comp wide.

Yeah, was there just earlier. My 290 x 114 foot trace/template is sitting right next to me.

I’ve struggled with bike shoes for decades and really just got used to not being real comfortable. I picked up some lake MTB shoes in wide last fall and found comfort for the first time ever. I also used the template and am very happy with the results.
I also have been through Bont, Sidi Mega and Shimano wides.
