Those other threads got me thinking about this. Evertime I get new whells my brother laughs at me and aks why? I don't know I answer. I have a wheel fetish I guess.

1 Set Neutrons (favorite)
1 set open pro's w/ record hubs (beat to hell)
1 set campy Shamal 9 speed nos (bling wheels)
1 set campy eurus (new never used)
1 set fulcrum racing 7 red (cute cute)
1 set weyless korso aero wheels shimano new never used and for sale (hint)
1 set campy tubulars that need a freewheel with athena hubs to no with a nos campy group I have.
1 bontrager race x lite front wheel for cross racin.

I don't know why I like collecting wheels and I want more still...help me stop. Actually during cross season it's and really nice to have some extra race and beater wheels, so at that time the extra wheels are usefull, but some are too nice to race cross on.

I like your style. I own two sets of Shamals. On pure looks they beat everything hands down. Many folks still claim them to be among the fastest wheels ever made. I recently saw a NOS set for sale on Ebay. Do I need three sets?

Oops, That should either say wheels, or wheel sets, or sets of wheels, or wheelios, or round hoops laced with spokes to hubs, not wheels sets.

Before I came back to school I was able to indulge my wheel fetish:

1.) Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL
2.) Zipp 404
3.) Mavic Ksyrium SL
4.) Bontrager Aero
5.) Mavic Open Pro
6.) Mavic Cosmic Elite
7.) Velocity Aero Head

Now I'm down to the Ksyriums and Cosmic Elites, but with Spoke's help I should have a pair of Wolber Profile 20's and maybe some Mavic GP4's soon.

Not as many as some but more than enough…
650c's:
2 sets Velocity Aeroheads clinchers (24 spoke Zipp front hub, 28 spoke Hugi 240s rear hub)
1 set Sun M14a (same hubs as above0
Spinergy Rev X (they were fun once)
Zipp 400's (deep section), Zipp hubs, bladed spokes, 8 speed freewheel (ca. Jan 1994)

All above wheelsets obsoleted when I got new 700c bikes last year.

700c's:
1 set Nimble Spiders (24f/28r)
1 set Reynolds CIrro Mid-V clinchers
1 set Reynolds Cirro Mid-V tubulars
1 set Lighweight Ventoux (with Hugi 240s hubs)

1 bike, several wheel sets so I don't have to change tires when I want to change the bike's attitude.

Campy 10 speed:
1 pr campy Neutron tubulars
1 pr open pros w/record hubs 32 spoke- road tires
1 pr open pros w/chorus hubs 32 spoke- cross tires

Shimano 10 speed:
1 powertap wheel

I've been resisting buying more wheels...but if I wind up really enjoying the tubular wheels this year, that may change. I think this situation would be very different if I raced...

This thread is poorly timed...

i'll try to think....

cosmic carbone tubulars,
adas,
american classic 420s,
bontrager race xxx lite carbon tubulars,
paris-roubaix rims to 7700 hubs 32 spoke t&s,
bontrager race x lites tubulars without machined sidewalls, much wider rims and different bearings; these were "borrowed" from postal/discovery via a pal at trek,
some hurting high flange record hub laced to a campy omega rim and its matching mate a dura-ace high flange 36h track hub laced to a 36h cxp30 tubular rim; this fine wheelset adorns the world most hurting fixed gear; an old holdsworth with a krylon paint job and gold fenders....did i mention the rear wheel is tubular and the front is a clincher.....it gets a whole lot worse.
what else? oh i have a stupid pair of spinergy spox wheels some rep gave me. i lend them to people i don't like.
i have a pair of old lew palermos laced to white industries hubs....those are nice.
two pair of neutron tubulars
one pair of horrible wheelsmith built stupid chorus to open pro wheels that i bought for next to nothing and that keep falling out of true no matter what i do to them. the spokes suck. the alloy nipples suck. the dish sucks and the tension sucks. i'm sure someone could take the ingredients present and build a decent wheel but he or she does not work at wheelsmith.
a really cheap fixed gear clincher wheelset made with some no name formula track hubs and some cheapo sun rims i found in a basement. 32spokes, brass nipples tied and soldered and on the merckx track bike for road riding. actually a really nice wheelset....
a zipp disc.
a pair of first generation ksyrium tubulars
a 650c campagnolo front disc with four holes in it from some stupid funny bike i used to have....
a pair of crossmax sl rim brake wheels for the mountain bike.....
a pair of silver shamals with cracked eyelets....
a set of record hubs built to mavic open pro rims that i built for the wife's pegoretti and which are everything the wheelsmith wheels are not....super reliable, and really nice riding and have never so much as needed a true. i delude myself by saying its because i built them and i'm an awesome wheelbuilder; but the reality has more to do with the fact that those wheelsmith spokes are awful and the wife is very light on the bike.
oh i forgot; i have a powertap hub built to an open pro rim. i've never used it but i loan it out to people i like so it has a ton of miles on it and is pretty beat to hell.

32 hole Ultegra hubs, butted spokes, brass nipples, silver Op's
32 hole D/A 7700 hubs, butted spokes, alloy nipples, silver Op's
32 hole D/A 7700 hubs, revolution and butted spokes, alloy nipples, black Op's
32 hole D/A 7800 hubs, revolution and butted spokes, alloy nipples, black Op's
32 hole D/A 7800 hubs, sapim and Wheelsmith spokes alloy nipples, black DT's
32 hole XT hubs, butted spokes, brass nipples, black OP's 2 sets cross wheels
Mavic Kys.......too stiff so I don't ride them.

WOW

If I ever needed to rationalize getting another wheelset (in my own warped mind), this is it. My list is relatively short:

1 pair 20/28h White Ind. H1 with Aerohead/OC
1 pair 32h Record with Aerohead/OC
1 pair Campy Zonda
1 pair 18/24h White Ind. with Velocity Fusion that needs a rebuild

Would be interesting to see if there's a correlation between number of bikes and number of wheelsets. My four sets are (well, will be) for two bikes.

14 pair of road wheels, I think. Not nearly that number of cassettes - a few wheelsets are intended for backup. A couple of sets of tubies have no tires yet.

After my recent sell-off and this weekend's swap meet, I have ZERO road bike wheelsets!

Soon to arrive -

1. Heavy-Duty Go Anywhere Wheels: Phil Wood hubs, Velocity Synergy rims, Pasela 32mm or Gran Bois 30mm tires (ETA, Ergott build in progress)

2. Lightweight Cruising Wheels: White Industries H1 hubs, Mavic Reflex rims, Dugast 25 mm tubulars (ETA, April)

This will satisfy my two long-running pricey bike urges, Phil Wood hubs and Dugast tubulars. Sweet and sour, heavy and light. I figure I'm old enough to do this right, and young enough to enjoy it for a long time. Ha, ha.

I try to keep my wheel sets down to what I actually need and will use. To that end, here are what I use (and have).
- Training and wet racing - Reflex-32-f, Campy Sygma Strada 32-r, DT, HB/FH-7800, Evo CX
- Crits. - Zipp 303 tub. Evo CX
- RR - Reynolds Ciro KOM, Evo CX
- Track - Zipp 440, HB-7600 (Dura-Ace track) 28/28, DT, Pista CS
-interesting tidbit; my rear track wheel is laced with radial right side spokes. I started lacing track wheels this way about fifteen years ago to make them laterally stiffer. Mavic finally followed my lead about six years ago and others have followed since.-
