I'm not sure of the year of mine, but my Hardrock has the quick release seatpost binder and the seatpost is a 26.2mm

Anywhere from a 26.0 to a 27.2, you're going to have to measure it. Part 2 is actually finding a seatpost once you determine the size

If you have a few bikes around you may consider their use to test the size

Go borrow some calipers from a neighbor. You’re gonna spend more money and time guessing on a seatpost

Or take it to a shop that has a seatpost sizing rod:

I'd be really surprised if it was 30.4. You normally never saw posts that big on steel bikes of that era, especially bikes like the hardrock. Some aluminum frames would use bigger posts a lot of the time. I would bet its somewhere between 26.0 and 26.8. I've seen them all on old steel Specializeds.

My RockHopper of that era took a 27.2
