View Full Version : Options for a PF30 BB in a 79mm shell to Shimano?

I'm looking at Factor O2 frames but they require PF30 bottom bracket and have a 79mm wide shell, which doesn't seem to fit the standard Shimano BB72-41B bottom bracket that comes with the Merlin-sourced groupset.

I'm not looking to spend $350 on a Ceramic Speed BB....so what are my options? I've been googling around for a bit but there doesn't seem to be a clear answer.

Anyone have ideas on a reasonable option to pair with an Ultegra r8000 crankset?

Does this help in any way shape or form? I like standard BB standards and ended up with this in a shop buy out

Factor is using the BBRight bottom bracket standard (also used by Cervelo). There are a number of options for BBRight pressfit cups. However, you can avoid some of the problems of pressfit BBs by using a screw together BB. Here's the Wheels Mfg BBRight screw together bottom bracket for 24mm spindle Shimano cranks (retail price $85):

That BB appears to be for an actual PF30 BB instead of the BBRight BB Factor uses, but the bigger issue is that it is for an SRAM GXP crank spindle (22mm/24mm), and a straight 24mm Shimano spindle just won't fit it.

That’s perfect! Thanks, as I hadn’t found that option.

Cool, thanks for the info (it will help me explain this at bike swaps lol) It drives me crazy that there are so many "standards" out there for this stuff now. I generally have bikes with 68 or 70 mm shells that are English or Italian thread

I have a brand new Parlee PF30 to Shimano bb sitting here that came with my Chebacco if you are interested. I would imagine it should work, but not positive.

Call BBInfinite. Don't bother with the screw together, they'll still creak eventually. Just get a single piece shell (Like BBInfinite) and it'll never creak. Yes, you need a press and hammer to remove it, but it really isn't a big deal.

They have Direct Fit BBright-Shimano/GXP.
