My new Monster cross bike has w.t.b.Wheels and Hubs
Some reviewers seem to think they were not that good

They'll be fine.

I really like WTB rims, their hubs are nothing special, but I think the only thing you're losing out on is weight and bling and possibly engagement speed. They'll be rebranded formula/novatec/etc type hubs.

Slippery slope with the upgrades! I’d buy as a Frameset and build up how you like or wait to see if the wheels have any real problems before upgrading.

The basic aluminum EA 70 Easton wheels are nice; easy sealing/wide/decent points of engagement/competitive in weight.

Hed Ardennes. It's what I bought for my wife's bike. No idea if they still make it in a 650b/27.5 though

I am trading parts I like off my bianchi onto the monster cross (gorilla monster) and the shop is selling my bianchi for me .
I live in a condo my storage room only holds three bikes
