I don't need one, but figured I'd pass along the idea.

Been curious about one of these for the last 20 years or so. At this price, it's going to be my next fork. In for one. Thanks for posting.

This might finally force me to get the Hampsten Strada Biancha (http://www.hampsten.com/bike/strada-bianca/) I have been thinking about for several years. The WoundUp Commuter (https://www.woundupcomposites.com/product/commuter-1-1-8/) is the original fork Steve used and still offers as an option.

I saw this earlier, and it made me think I should get another one. I have a disc CX on my commuter. Its definitely a jackhammer (read: stiff) but its pretty awesome. On the right bike (like that Hampsten) its a perfect looking fork.

Why do people like these compared to other forks? I have seen them for years and I have a couple of bikes with 1" forks. What would I notice different from a 1" carbon fork or a 1" steel fork?

Thanks!

Looking at the Gravel X Disc 1-1/8" for an option on my low trail bike $515 ($257.50) appears to be a great deal, but add what I need (longer steerer, eyelets) and we're up to $635 ($317.50) then what I want (black anodize) we're at $685 ($342.50). These forks are expensive.

never mind.

Why no delete post feature?

Yeah, but they're also one of few MiUSA carbon forks. They're also wonderful to ride. A comparative bargain, even with your upgrades, IMO.

A day and a half, I posted the link in the PSA thread yesterday morning. But still.

Glad they sold some forks!

Please no one buy the 26 inch mtb fork until I gave a chance to check measurements.

I remember that Hampsten and was enamored with it from day one. Painted to match the pickup, or something like that.

Just perfect in every way.

I've had one similar to the one on the Hampsten for years. Rides great, oodles of clearance.

Surprised they weigh nearly twice as much as an Enve fork.

WU: Weight 528g – 740g

Enve: Weight 350g

It´s not your climbing race bike fork. Otoh in this age of fat tires mega oversized headtubes reinforced disc frame/ forks, giant rear cassettes and trendy bike touring.. is anyone still weighing components?

A significant weight loss and probably a lot stiffer.

AFAIK, the discount is shown in the cart/checkout and is still working.

Wound up forks in my experience
—quite stiff
—seem very sturdy
—can be customized

I was looking at the weights and comparing them to the Whisky forks. Whisky msrp is lower with a lower weight. Wound up would be a lower price with the sale, but still heavier.

It's irrelevant now that the sale is over. I snooze, I lose.

Ugg, I keep looking at this sale with the idea of buying a 1" fork to match a NOS Giordana sans fork a local shop is selling.

Must... resist.... stupid.... projects.

What do you think the play is here? Reduce inventory? Try and raise some quick cash to prevent bankruptcy or buy tooling for a new product?

I don’t think they struggle with tooling costs. Wound Up are part of these guys

I just noticed that they ended the sale early "due to an influx of orders". They have the right to do whatever they want but I think it is kind of ****ty to say until 9/7 and then end it on 8/26. From our marketing perspective, they would have been better to have a short sale and then extended if needed rather than do it the way they did.

Well in all fairness if they were trying to just get rid of a back log of forks and they are all done then the jig is up. Word sure does get around fast.

In the end, I didn't really need one anyway :D

They do not. Their 1" forks have a steel steerer. I asked.

Another good thing about WU is that they can do custom specs. My cross bike fork has legs with 37.5 axle to crown rather than 39.5. They can custom make this.

What do you think the play is here? Reduce inventory? Try and raise some quick cash to prevent bankruptcy or buy tooling for a new product?

I spoke with them. They received a grant from the State of Utah, to keep employees working. This allowed them to cut prices, increasing demand. Effectively, everyone who ordered a fork at the 1/2 off pricing, received Utah taxpayer funds. And in return, Utah is pulling your discretionary income into their economy.

OT: I find this interesting because I'm a geek. As a student of Economics, the State of Utah made the decision to keep money circulating in their economy by offering grants to Utah based businesses. With the assistance of this grant, Utah nabs discretionary funds from whichever state the orders come. Most of these incoming funds, along with Utah's grant, stay in the Utah economy, and result in more taxes paid, less welfare paid, fewer evictions, more lunches at the diner, etc, etc,....it flows through their economy.

While it may be accurate to consider this socialism, one must also consider that the State of Utah is taking the long view that an investment of this nature is justifiable, given the downstream reduction in welfare payments, preservation of tax base, and other social costs. Every dollar pumped into the economy gets recirculated many many, times. This is even more true today.

I did not either but I also got stung by another special-offer that completed earlier than originally stated so I was not able to get my order in. And this one had nothing to do with keeping the economy rolling: https://meermin.com/collections/made-to-order-expired/products/101601-snuff-superbuck-e

Mystery solved. Thanks for sharing. I would never have guessed that this was the driving factor for the sale.

I almost bought a new one 2-3 month back, but just had a crisis clicking checkout. Now of course I am glad I waited.

As said here in thread, the eMail saying 'x' weeks for delivery due to being made to order dispelled my initial thought of an inventory dump.
