I'm building a really sweet Cannonball SuperX as an all-road bike and... boy is that thing thin walled. I'm looking for some way to protect the downtube. Most of what I'm finding is way too short and helicopter tape is hard to work with (fingerprints, yellowing and rounding the corners). Anyone have any suggestions?

For the helicopter tape just cut a thin piece of poster board or cardboard and stick it on the edge of the tape so you have a place to hold create tension to get the tape straight. Stick on the surface you want to cover and cut the part with the cardboard off.

How big of a piece do you need?

Somewhere around 55 x 9 cm.

You can buy this stuff:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LY0GFK3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And just cut the amount you need. Install like all automotive PPF - use soapy water (baby shampoo is the best) to apply and squeeze dry (using flat tool) to adhere.

boy is that thing thin walled.

If that's your concern, the tape won't help you.

Had another thread about this topic just this past week...

I personally have rolls of helicopter tape for protecting things, mainly keyboard keys, trackpads, electronic screens.
