Colnago Precisa Fork - Rust Pitting Prevention?

Have a relatively new Colnago Master X Lite with the Chrome straight Precisa fork.

I keep getting these annoying little bits of rust pitting on the fork. They are easy to scrape off with a fingernail, but I can't imagine they are good for the finish longer term.

The bike lives in the garage, and Florida is darn humid. We are inland, so no salt spray and I'm careful to clean the bike after use.

Is there something I can put on the fork to prevent this?

There are no other issues with rust anywhere on the bike.

Wax it with a good quality auto wax and it will seal the chrome pores and help prevent moisture damage. And repeat the process approximately every 3 months.

You want any wax that lists carnuba as an ingredient.

Some waxes also have a polishing compound-a mild abrasive to remove some very slight scratches. That's okay, too.

Wax works, but IME after cleaning and polishing really well and appliying some wax you have to clean the fork after you get back home so no dust gets in it.

Either way, where are u located? is weird to me at least that you have the problem so often you know. That's odd.


Ok... florida! thats the problem. U have to dry that bike before and after the ride. And store it in a dry place. If you have it in the shed doesnt surprise me at all you are having problems.

Yes, I have the same problem with my Tommasini.

I'm constantly polishing to avoid rust, and I never ride in the rain but I do live 2.5km from the beach.

Pretty sure my next bike is going to have no chrome at all!

Ideally, hard paste carnauba. Stuff is hard to put on, at least for the surface area of a vehicle, and wears like iron.

On a fork, it's a 20 minute exercise, mostly waiting...

This brings back fond memories of my old lugged steel Olmo that has chromed fork and chainstays. I was living with my parents at the time and their condo faced directly towards the beach...it was a lot of work trying to keep the rust under control.
