Thinking about painting my Merckx-speed ti frame. Unpainted is great for winter riding, but naked ti just doesn't compare to a great painted bike. Who should I call? Cost?

Thx.

If you want the best, contact Joe Bell in San Diego.

Depending on what you are looking for exactly, anywhere from $300.00 to $500.00.

Good luck,

Steve

Check out Jim Kish's gallery (http://www.kishbike.com/gallery/).
He has his ti (and steel) bikes powder-coated by Spectrum (http://www.spectrumpowderworks.com/). Beautiful work.

Also give Tom K at SPECTRUM a call. His paints are also outstanding AND he use to do some for imported on "SPECIALS" (from what I hear)

Judging by the gallery, you could not go wrong with Spectrum.

Are you leaving any Ti unpainted?

Yeah, I'd definitely leave some of the ti unpainted, mainly around the BB and chainstays, since that seems to be where the most crud collects.

Do most paintshops have decals or would I have to supply Merckx decals? Or do they just paint all of that now?

I've heard that getting paint to adhere to ti is harder than getting it to stick to steel. Is that just a myth?

A lot of shops have decals that they've already hoarded, or can sometimes find them.

If you find the right person, you can have some fabricated from a picture or copy of the logo.

Years ago I had my steel Mercx painted and the painter painted the "Mercx". No decals. It was perfect. I'm sure there are many options including finding decal sets.
