UCI Road World Championships in Portland?

This news is a few months old, but I just became aware of it yesterday, and apparently it's gaining support, including Chris Horner, Chris King, Rapha, and many more.

Hope so. I went to Worlds in Richmond and it was a blast.

The problem for me is that if Portland Oregon continues the same path, the city might become too dangerous for tourism. Not saying the idea is bad but you have to weight the things going on aswell.

Sounds dumb but who can tell this scenery could not happen??? Junior grand fondo or even the big guys, and somebody decided to just stop the event in protest for the immortality of the crabs just because there's a lot of TV coverage and stuff? The cycling even might become what is not. And we dont have Hinault there to punish anybody anymore.

Dont take me wrong, great idea, but way too risky for today's atmosphere.

Local road racing is dead in Portland. The city doesn't support closing roads anymore without on an on-duty cop at every intersection.

Take it someplace else.

If it's anything like the track and field world championships scheduled for Oregon 2022, I'd be more worried about corruption than public safety.

That’s an absurd take. Portland is not a dangerous place.

I’ve moved away from the area, but just spent the last three weeks there. Portland wasn’t and is not dangerous.

Protests do not equal danger.

I live in Washington, DC and there are like 100 protests a day. City still closes many main and iconic thoroughfares regularly for other protest, parades, street festivals, marathons, etc.

The media, and, uhhh, someone else, is blowing the situation in Portland out of proportion to what it is. I'm still fine taking my kids there. It is not dangerous. And over the 55 years I've lived in Oregon, well, this has happened before. Heck, in the "radical" late 60s/early 70s my dad was Vice President and President of Reed College, then considered the most radical college in the country. Protests, and student takeovers of my dad's office, were part of the atmosphere, but it wasn't, and didn't become, dangerous.

Portland Metropolitan area is somewhere in the area of 6,500 square miles. The protests are taking up about 5 square blocks. If you are "bothered or offended" by the protests, stay in the other 6,499 square miles and you will be fine.;)

I think Road Worlds would be great here. I will find a way to go if it comes!
