I am looking to turn this to an urban style bike with flat/riser handlebars, its 11 speed, any recommendation on shifter and brake selection? Appreciate the input, Thanks.

The reason you haven't gotten any reply yet is because people are still jaw-dropped and in complete shock....

How high and far back you need to go?

I'd flip the stem and put a Metropolis bar (comes black or silver) on it with some TRP or Avid levers. Those are mechanical disc right? Shimano RS700 shifters...

Thanks, and why do you say they are jaw-dropped and in complete shock.

Cool, I was thinking similar.

I have done this lots of times. FSA Metropolis bars. You may want to think about a slightly longer stem to accommodate the shortened cockpit. For shifting duties, Paul Thumbies mated to Shimano Dura Ace bar end shifters. Of course matching the right number of speeds. I can't tell what you have and I am assuming you have Shimano derailleurs. Brake levers can be inexpensive, I use Shimano and they work great.

Really can't understand what the big deal is with the others, it's just a bike, not a piece of Banksy art. The beauty of this type of conversion is you can always change it back if you don't like it.

If it's 1x11, you could consider an XT rear derailleur and XT shifters. Cheaper overall setup than using Shimano road flatbar, and you get the clutch.

Also, an alternative to the suggested handlebars is the ritchey classic 10d bar. It's similar in shape to other alt bars recommended, but polished silver and not as extreme a shape.

Agree, I have several rode bikes already and I am looking for more of a fun ride that I can jump on anytime with no gear (kit, shoes, etc.) and ride around for pure fun.

Here is current setup to help:
- Juin Tech hydraulic calipers
- Ashima lightweight rotors
- 37mm Riddler tires on Stan's Crest MK3 rims, butted spokes, alloy nipples
- Cassette Shimano 105 5800, 11-28
- Front Derailleur Shimano 105 5800
- Rear Derailleur Shimano 105 5800
- Crankset FSA Omega CK-C4001SS, 46/34

I am thinking the Shimano SL-RS700 Rapidfire Plus shifters because they are comaptible with the FD and RD. Trying to determine compatible brake levers. Thinking of a more riser bar style more straight than the Metroplis style similar to robertbb recomendation to assist with the shorten cockpit, but really appreciate any advice.

I have a similar project in mind. I plan to put on a Velo Orange Crazy Bar - gives you a bit urban but touring/all-round as well with multiple hand positions. Currently out of stock but coming soon.

My plan for the drivetrain is a 1x11 with either Rapid Fire or thumbshifters, either Microshift or Paul thumbie conversion.

Exactly I was going to show that link, in that I am basically doing a modern version of that.

I was in the same position recently and decided to just buy a dedicated bike. I parted out the other bike that was planned for conversion, and ended up money ahead. Quite a bit ahead. The new bike was under $500 new. Accessories came from my parts bin. The fat tires and low cost make the whole experience care free and fun.

Man that is nice!!!!! Actually I had done the same and settled on a Cannondale Bad Boy, but came to find out they are sold out and will not be available until December or early next year. Right now I am looking at cost of front cockpit and pedals. I have compatible straight bar shifters for my FD and RD, I have pedals, I have several different types of stems in my part bin, and I have decided on Ritchey Comp Rizer Handlebar w/ 20mm upsweep and 9 degree back sweep. Only thing I haven't decided on was the brake levers.

What kind of bike is that, it might be my plan B. Thanks,

There is also a 3spd IGH version but I went single speed for pure simplicity. It’s a riot around town.

Here is a Trek Portland that I converted over for a winter bike. The brake levers were just inexpensive Shimano's.

Its currently 2 x 11 and Shimano SL-RS700 Rapidfire Plus flat bar road shifters are compatible with the current Shimano 105 5800 FD and FD. So its more economically for me to just purchase the shfiters which I found for $86 for the pair. Now I am just confirming what brake levers to get that are compatible with Juin Tech hydraulic calipers, which I believe are both disc and rim lever compatible.

I'd guess short pull but which model brake caliper is it?

They must be short pull so if looking to save a $ these should fit the bill https://www.treefortbikes.com/Shimano-Sora-BL-R3000-Canti-Caliper-Brake-Lever-Set

For me a city flat bar bike has to have the bars even with or above the saddle so I can relax and look around while pedaling. Aero position is not required at city bike speeds. Of course I'm OLD so my requirements are probably not universal.

I have done some measurements with the seat, bar, and stem and I am pretty close with that using a bar with 35mm riser. Just now need to wait until the parts arrive to see what I got.

Thanks and I honestly think its going to come out pretty nice. Also, I just found that Colnago actually made something similar in a Ferrari line in 2013 called the Colnago CF9 https://www.flickriver.com/photos/coventryeagle/sets/72157635233442860/
