Shipping a bike from Australia

So I have been looking at a bike in Melbourne. Seller may be persuaded to ship, but wants me to work out the details. Best I can find is FedEx, AU$750 or so. Is there a more economical option I am missing?

Bought a frame+fork from Australia in February 2020. Seller was able to ship with DHL for $370 AUD, which included $500 insurance coverage. Didn't get dinged with duties/imports/yadada.

Even considering how ridiculously expensive it is to post or ship anything here (even domestic post/freight is outrageous) that does seem like a lot. It almost makes it an unviable deal IMO unless it's something you just can't get from anywhere else.

It would provide more value to visit and bring it back. Simply shipping is cost prohibitive

I'm in Melbourne.

Few things:

1) $750 seems unnecessarily high.
2) Look into this shipping aggregator: "au.interparcel.com". I've sold/sent a few bits and pieces to Paceliners in the US in the last few months.. Aus post is actually quite economical for small items but bigger items will be much cheaper with Interparcel. Don't forget using that site will quote you in AU$, so do the conversion which should be very favourable!
3) If you want a second opinion on frame condition or finish (in case you're not 100%), I'm happy to take a look for you. Just bare in mind we just went into 6 week hard stage-4 lockdown again because the virus is out of control here now... so I may be able to go more than 5km from my house by around September 12th. :help:

It cost me $440 AUD to send a Ti frame/fork to New Jersey from Melbourne Australia, that was the cheapest I could find...DHL quoted more.

I'll never do it again...if I ever did it's up to the buyer to organise everything. What a pain in the arse that was!

Interparcel is an option I have used before to ship from Sydney to California. They mainly use DHL and a couple of years ago cost < $400 AUD for a frame (door to door in under a week).

Unfortunately, price aside, I don’t know how much you’ll have with shipping from Melbourne right now.

They’ve just gone into a full scale European style lockdown for 4-6 weeks. Supermarkets, chemists, take away food merchants open... everything else shut.

I sent a frame from country Victoria, Australia a couple of years ago to a buyer in Seattle, was <$300. Sent via a company(franchise) called “Pack And Send” they act as a shipping broker. From memory I packed it and dropped it off at the P&S store. As stated above things in Melbourne are going to be very tough for sometime to come. It may be able to be organised online if there is a franchise nearby.

Check in with PL member "Rich the Roadie". He shipped me a Parlee frame from Australia a few months ago. Got here (East Coast) in 4 days. He told me shipping was around $250 IIRC.
