I've got a hilly charity ride coming up in about a month, and I want to buy a new cassette. I'm running an early mid-cage Record 10 speed rear with a Record CT 48/34 in the front. When the derailleur was manufactured, there was no such thing as a 12-30 cassette, only the 13-29. According to the specs, the max cog size for the derailleur is 29, the minimum cog is 13 (I've successfully run a 12-27, however) and the max capacity is 30, so I'd be above capacity by two teeth and running a max cog that's one tooth too big.

Does anybody know for sure (as in having done it) whether or not a 12-30 will work with this derailleur? Am I better off with the old standby 13-29 (even though it's only available in the low-end galvanized Veloce)?

Thanks in advance,
Tom

that'll be fine. a mid cage campy RD will never know the difference between a 29 and 30T. unless you were really at the limit, you shoudnt need to change chain length either.

I’m running a 12-30 cassette with a mid cage Chorus 10 RD and it works very well. However, I have 50/34 on the front so can’t speak specifically to your configuration.

Thanks - it should be no problem at all then.

I too use this combination: 12-30 / medium 10 rd / 50-34 (not 48-34) with no issues.

running it on a 10s short cage with standard cranks... 53 ring doesn't like the last two cogs but otherwise fine. i make sure not to cross, but on accident, it can handle it, just loud. i have the b screw adjusted all the way out. it's all about wrap. on a compact it should be totally fine.

I’m running this same setup-works great.

I use 12-30 + 48/34 without any problems! 2006 chorus medium cage derailleur.

I run 34/50 12-30 ten speed with medium cage Record on several bikes. No problem at all as others have said.

As long as the chain length is 'proper', plug and play. The fact that you have a smallish big ring makes it even easier.
