Can we please properly name this team? We certainly have the time.

How about the Washington Snakeheads? Snakehead is an invasive species of fish in the area.

I'm really surprised the copyright troll didn't think of this one.

I think they should keep this name. And change their uniforms to black block lettering on white, like the generic products BITD

Maybe they did and it's going through countless committees and making the rounds so they don't choose something that offends someone. Very sensitive period we live in nowadays.

AFAIK, the prior name used a term that was never used in any sense that was not derogatory and people have been pushing for the name change for a while.

I can’t find the link but I read a story that some fan had trademarked about 50 potential team names including Redtails and several others that had been mentioned. He even went so far as to purchase logo merchandise to protect his trademarks.

Apparently he contacted the NFL when he starting doing this and they were like “Whatever”.

Even though he claimed he would give the team whatever name they wanted, they decided otherwise.

Sentinels would have been cool but I’m guess there were issues with that name too.

As a vegetarian, I’m offended by the Green Bay Packers. Packers refers to a meat packing company (The Indian Packing Company, so double whammy) that sponsored the team way back in the early days of the NFL. I’m kidding of course, I’m actually a Packers fan. But I believe this actually happened years ago when some PETA types suggested changing the name to the Green Bay Pickers.

After they nosed around they decided pickers was offensive to almost everyone at one time or another.

Since their best years we’re in the 80s with the famous Hogs offensive line and the Diesel (John Riggins), perhaps keeping the Hog theme:

Porkers
Baconers
Boars (although it could cover a more appropriate Bores)

Or keeping it political

While we're at it, we need to change the name of the Arizona Cardinals. Too religious. And the Baltimore Ravens, who's name is in reference to Edgar Allan Poe (he had multi children thru extra marital affairs, was court martialed at West Point, and married his 13 year old cousin when he was 26). And the Philadelphia Eagles. Named after a bird facing extinction (no doubt the team name draws unneeded attention to eagles, further endangering the species). Maybe we should just drop all the team names and cities, and just call everybody "FlavorTown".

Congressional Oversight has a poetic rhythm to it but doesn’t carry too much oomph.

Why not Hogs? There’s some history there and it would have some appeal to the traditionalists. A little wink at pork barrel politics.

The in-stadium music alone would be amazing, and an excuse to go totally nuts with the uniforms.

Course, it's Dan Snyder and the NFL, so it'll be something completely milquetoast.

When the Washington Bullets became the Washington Wizards the other name choices were narrowed down to Dragons, Express, Stallions, Sea Dogs, and the Wizards.

It's possible that one of them will be resurrected.

Don’t most football (soccer) teams in other countries just use the city name with the suffix F.C. Exceptions include Arsenal, originally a club team founded by munitions workers.

Perhaps in the U.S. we have been overthinking this stuff for too long.

Washington Revolters.

It has historical significance, they can still use the "R" logo, and is a very fitting name considering recent events taking place in our country.

On a side note, Ron Rivera was on the Dan Patrick show today. He said they are going to take their time with this and don't want to rush into anything. Could take up to 18 months for this naming process. If you don't want to rush into anything, why the rush to keep the same colors? What happens if you come with a name that has no correlation to the colors? I would think you would choose a name and then pick the appropriate colors.

They kept the colors because they need something to play in this year while they sort out the name. They've still got merch to sell and players to keep in uniform after all.

Cynicism aside, i think Nationals is a good name for the MLB team.

The NFL New York Giants were founded as (and are still legally named) the New York Football Giants, to distinguish the team from the baseball Giants playing in New York at the time.

Perhaps the Washington NFL team could do the same...Washington Football Nationals.

All of their merch this year will be the generic name with the same colors. No logo or prior nickname.

Amazon and others stopping sale of the met h had to be one of the last straws on the name.
