Just saw this short video (http://tinyurl.com/yxewot) from CNN. This girl (Akiane) is amazing. Here is her website (http://www.artakiane.com/) and this is a sample of her work...

(painted at age eight)

Edit: Sorry about the misspelling in the title.

I once saw a paraphrase attributed to Picasso. He said something like, "I could draw like Rembrandt and Raphael when I was 6, and I have spent the rest of my life trying to draw like a 6-year old."

I'm totaly flabbergasted by people who are gifted in the arts. I still draw stick people.

Good art is always challenging. And often disturbing. Just is so. That can apply to anything, even things we don't associate with "Art". Maybe especially things we don't associate with "Art".

In my 39 years and 363 days I have been challenged to question the unquestionable and that was perhaps the best lesson I have ever had.

sorry guys,

no, not good art.

Besides the greeting card facility, which is fine as far as it goes,

and by that I mean as far as affected commercial tripe goes,

what actually seems to be going on is a pretty cynical commercial project. Are the parents advertising their daughter as the only known child genius or whatever? uh yeah, they are, and they ought to be ashamed of themselves, repent, and hereafter try to give her a real childhood.

The whole little miss Thomas Kinkade spectacle reeks.

Sorry to come in like this--I'm a professor and creative writer, and you're kind of on my turf here.

Michael, cut her some slack. Maybe it's not MOMA or Metropolitan Museum "ART" but it sure looks to me as if she is a talented kid.

How high would you want to set the bar for an artist at that age?

Notwithstanding her ability to paint in fairly excruciating detail, indicating that this kid pays more attention to things than most kids her age, the art is weird and scary.

Yes - I sense her parents might be prodding at the door of child prodigy stardom and the associated money that comes with it.

No insult intended to the girl (yes, I know it IS an insult) as she obviously has a talent for something that, strictly speaking, is art, but it seems like a marketing exercise for religious magazines.

On the upside, she plays piano too! AND, she seems like a nice kid.

hey I did cut her some slack. I said she had facility, didn't I? It's the others behind this slick little marketing campaign that deserve no slack--there are better ways to make a quick buck than pimping out your own flesh and blood. That kind of damage sticks.
