"Fastest Known Times". No mention of Strava or how the times are logged, just that fastestknowntime.com "approves" the routes and "verifies" the times. The route in the lead of the story reminds me of Ted King's recently completed DIY Gravel route designed by Joe Cruz.

FKTs have been a thing for 20+ years. Recent surge with no races just like everesting etc.
AFAIK, many of them were approved based on Garmin/Suunto data.

Here is NH 4000 footers. https://fastestknowntime.com/route/new-hampshire-4000-footers-nh
Record held by my neighbor who also rides for recovery.

Hadn't heard of this before, and am in awe of these folks, having done the NH 4000ers in winter - over a period of three seasons!

known about these fkt's for a while now. before i go on a new mountain run, the fkt times have provided me with a good estimate on how i will fare. very useful.

but then i realize what a sucker i am compared to these beasts of men and women. :)

Just eyeballing the bar graph it looks like exponential growth (the peaks in the bar graph) has been going on for a number of years now, after years in single digits beginning in 2000.

You can do the R2R2R in the Grand Canyon.

You swim the Colorado twice on this one while running 41 miles and climbing 14,000 ft

Jim Walmsley 5:55 for R2R2R is mind blowing.

I did it last year in August (suboptimal time of the year), and it is beyond me how you got that fast on that course with +800 ft drops next to the trail.
