Anyone have experience tightening up the mechanism on a Rival 10sp front shifter? The lever doesn't return all the way straight, feels very loose, and is hard to shift.

I would guess that the metal tab that holds the double tap lever is about to snap. Known issue with that generation of Rival. That’s how mine felt before it broke.

Sorry.

Surprised it’s lasted that long to be honest. I replaced a lot of those for that failure

Would this help, or is the issue on the tab further upstream?

The tab is the part the pin connects to. In your bottom photo, you can see that it is already bent a little bit.

Yup, shift paddle about to fall out.

I was looking for something in my parts bins the other day and discovered at least 5 busted rival/force 10&11s shifters in various states of failure and a pile of parts from previously discarded shifters.... they're cheap, replace it.

If you've got one with good guts and want to part it out, let me know!

Oh yeah, I see that now in the photo. It's on a bike I don't ride that much anymore, but quarantine has me searching for projects. Thanks!

Either the shift paddle falls out, or the pawls fail internally and pulling the lever does nothing. I can take a look, but I'm not even sure why I bothered to save any of these, maybe if I ever build a SS bike.

Usually plagues the right hand 1st-gen Rival, Force, and Apex shifters. First time i heard about this for a LHS shifter

Then again, QC on the Yaw Red shifters were crap. My 10-speed Red Yaw RHS shifter went kaput, and the LHS exhibits symptoms similar to what the Original poster is describing.
