I’m surprised they chose that model. But maybe it has to do with Detroit Bikes’ expertise more than what would sell best as a MiUSA model.

It's a (re)start.
Sad to see how it became a Crappy Tire brand.

Got two in this household from the days when they were good stuff and both have served us well.

I prefer the classic styling of my '65 Collegiate

compared to the re-issue..setting technology aside all of the core elements are still there: no-frills frame, iconic green paint, full fenders, comfy bars and saddle.

After the last 20 years of seeing the hunks of poo with "Schwinn" on the headtube come through the door, I think they've fallen too far into the maw of Walmart. There's no coming back from that

The Collegiate is expected to be priced at $998 per copy and available as early as next month through Walmart.com.

Oh yeah, a thousand-dollar, basic bike sold through Walmart.com should do really well. /s

I'm glad there building them here but I don't think they are going to sell very many of them at Walmart.

It's walmart.com, essentially the same thing as ordering on Amazon. You won't be walking into a store and buying one, this'll be like the Rawlands and similar deals that they had in years past.

They'll sell everyone they make..as mentioned, online, Amazon and they'll go fast.
PLUS, the big box stores sell many, many times more bikes than any bunch of 'LBS'..I've always said if wally-world or the like put some $ into a 'bike shop', with trained people, who can assemble and then service bikes..it would hurt a LOT of 'LBS'".
