Are there any alternatives to Speedplay Frogs that have similar free float and can be used with mountain shoes? Thanks!

Crankbrothers and Time have good - light float.Especially after some wear

i thought i'd never switch but turned to the latest Shimano Deore XT Spd pedals. they come with 52 model cleat that even when pedals adjusted to loosest exit tension can still be hard to clip out of. but with the alternate 56 model cleat there is decent float and getting out is no issue what so ever...and i never have come out accidentally. foot support platform is flat and seems fine for foot comfort and no focused hot spot issues. cleats are cheap, wear like iron, and rebuilding is inexpensive..unlike Frogs.

I've been using the Shimano PD ES600 pedals for the last year--a road pedal that uses the SPD cleat. They have a decent amount of float, are easy to get in and out of, are fairly light, and are inexpensive. And they are quiet.

I like Time ATAC. Easy in & out, nice float, was able to go straight back to them after ACL reconstruction without any issues.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ve tried SPDs and ATACs in the past (approaching 20 years ago), so maybe it’s time to try them again.

Nothing that I've found, unfortunately. I use SPD's for actual MTB riding, but for walkable shoes/cleats for an otherwise Speedplay-full-free-float road shoe/pedal rider, there's nothing like them.

The Frogs seem to have had 20 degrees of free float. If you need all 20 degrees, then I'm not sure any alternatives exist! The Syzr has 10 degrees, and I think SPDs have 6. The SPDs have been enough for me, but again, we don't know how much float you need.

ATAC cleat has 13 or 17 degrees of float depending on your preference. I've got them setup on a pair of Shimano S-Phyre XC-9s for when I'm on a real ride, and on a pair of Shimano lace-up mountain bike shoes for around town / commuting. With the mountain bike shoes I don't notice the cleats even when on hardwood or concrete floors.

I don’t think I need all 20 degrees, but I always just liked that tension-free feeling.

sh52 come with pedals. sh56 are the alternate multi-release cleats. the 56 one let you out any way you want out and my feet can turn a few degrees easily while clipped in without coming out. and when i want out it is really easy.

I've never used Frog's. But I have used Speedplay's and no matter how much float another pedal has, none have the feeling of free float IMO. Any reason why you don't want to keep using frogs?

expensive to start, expensive to maintain, things like that.

And aren’t they discontinued now?
