Apologies for those who have sat through this drill before...what are the best bicycle scenes ever in the movies? What did it mean to you?

Just to get it out of the way, I will lead off with:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_JPDEHU1ok

I prob saw this scene when I was eight or nine years old. Dang! I thought: I want to be like that guy on the bike!

I'm still trying.

(Tip o' the hat to PL Dino Suegiù for sparking the topic.)

Plus: Bicycle Thieves (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2P4xo9kmPM) and Breaking Away (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTZ0N7VTDtY).

(And I actually like the BCaSK scene, but just really cannot stand that song.)

These aren't the "best" scenes ever, but they are amongst the most amusing...

1) The music video for Queen's song "Bicycle Race"

2) The bike scene from the movie "Mr. Bean's Holiday"

From the Rivendell Blahg:

... It's kind of a chase scene that starts at around 1:07. It includes some super deft stream crossing in what appears to be wingtips and culminates in a bike-tossing scene at 1:09:16. I don't know how they did that, how many takes it took to nail it, and it seems to me to get the bike to end-o-over-and-over like that would have required a super tight headset, but it doesn't seem tight just before he thows it. But if not tight, it seems the front wheel would have gone all perpendicular and sabotaged the whole bounce-flip.

I urge you to watch at least from 1:08 to 1:11, but I know, there's never any time...."

No doubt, total jaw dropper when you first se that scene. It could be cars or motorbikes and it would be the same in many ways. Very cinematic to be sure.

She did a great job for sure, but lets not forget who taugt her to do that. Bill Woodull of Campagnolo, Specialized, and USCF tech support fame was the technical adviser on that film. He's responsible for helping to keep it authentic and real(ish).

In an earlier take of that scene she tossed the old wheel to the left just as the peloton passed. The makeup crew didn't have to create artificial road rash on the riders after that. Chong said she was so embarrassed that she had a hard time facing the riders who went down.
