On one of my bikes, I have an Ultegra 10-speed setup with 50-34 chainrings. I'd like to run a smaller big ring, like a 46. What are my options with replacement rings or a replacement crankset?

If its a 110 bolt circle fsa makes rings. I run their stuff on acouple different cranksets.

One of my more liked combos is 38x48 on an older Red crank that has a 130bcd. It shifts VERY nice.

46 tooth available if your crankset is 5 bolt.

Vuelta makes both 110bcd and 130bcd chain rings. I have them in both bcd's in 46t and 48t. I also have a 38t 130bcd. They are available in both flat, and SE variety. You can find them on Ebay, Amazon, Nashbar/Performance.

Interesting. I see just the chainring can be found, too. Do you know whether the CX 70 big ring would just bolt onto my Ultegra crankset, or would I need to buy the whole crankset?

Braze on or clamp on fder? If brazeon, 'may' be tough to get the fder low enough...:)

Clamp on, so no problem there

Interesting thought. I would need to go with at least a 36 on the cassette to get myself up hills.

If you have 10 speed 50-34, then your BCD is 110. The CX70 rings are also 110bcd and should be compatible.

If one did have a braze on FD mount, these two items can make a braze on FD go lower than a 50T big ring.

I've used both with good success.

I have a cx70 chain ring and an ultegra 10 crank (forget exactly the series) and the chain ring will not fit without modification. I didn't want to file the chain ring, so I put it on a SRAM crank for now. Probably will modify a chain ring eventually, it just needs for a little bit of material to be removed.

As already mentioned, Shimano has compatible CX chainrings, and there are lots of other options if you don't insist on Shimano parts - just look for 110 BCD rings. Some brands that I can think of are BBB, FSA, Wolf Tooth, Praxis, TA Specialites, Sunrace, Rotor...
