My brother went to college in Cambridge Mass and one day he confronted a couple professional bike thieves. One guy had a set of bolt cutters and the other guy carried the bikes to a van parked around the corner. They worked casually as a team and would just clean out bike racks. If it took a second too long, they'd just move to the next bike. My brother thought he could keep them there long enough for the cops to arrive but they just laughed at him and drove away.

I've seen it, a classic! Worth renting again, although if I remember correctly it's one of those tragic "real life in Italy" movies...
