aka their "Sprint Aero Wide", how do you think these perform, are they basically just the Kinlin XR31s stripped bare and polished? I can't seem to find much in the way of any recent actual user reviews.

With a Ti bike and Tan sidewalled tires, do you think they'd look good?

I thought about getting a set a few times, but ...
-price has gone through the roof over the last six months. Think they’re at 549 now and were 379 at end of 2019
-they use bitex hubs, which are ok but not anything to go crazy about
-20/24 lacing only. Ok if you’re 170lbs or less, but the combo of med stiffness hubs and low lacing means lots of upkeep
-hunt is notorious for lowballing their weight
-rear rim is symmetric, even though a benefit of the regular xr31t is the offset drilling for the rear wheel to balance spoke tension
-long wait times

That being said have never heard of anyone regretting their purchase of alloy Hunt models. Maybe now that they’ve upped the prices that will change. But if you really like the polished look they sell the rims by themselves, and you have them laced to much better hubs for around the same price.

November Wheels certainly seems to think that they’re -
XR31s with Novatec hubs.

Sorry yeah, novatec not bitex. At least they upgraded the hubs since 2017 to the model with the anti bite guard.

I like mine. Can’t say much as to I’d they are like any other brand but they are light, cheap, fast, and have a nice retro look to them.

Appreciate your thoughts. A couple follow-ons

Hunt indicates a 220lb max & 200lb preferred rider weight limit with 20/24. Disagree with that rating?

Are the hubs Bitex? I will note that the hub description on the Sprint Aero Wides, does differ in a few ways from the Race Aero Wides. I can't identify the OEM from this though. This seemingly is adding a bit of justification for price difference vs their standard race wides?

Sprint hub description:
"Hubs | Race Season SPRINT straight-pull, 15mm diameter 7075-T6 axle. Circular dropout interface steps for added stiffness. 3x treble-tooth pawl engagement for instant acceleration. Engagement angle of just 7.5 degrees. Steel spline insert to protect cassette body."

vs. the standard Race Aero wide:
"Hubs | HUNT Race Straight-Pull with 10° RapidEngage 4-pawl freehub, with H_CERAMIK coating for enhanced durability."

As per my above post, and what I think November was referring to which were the Race Aero Wides, the Sprint Aero Wides have a different hub than the Race Aero Wides. OTOH, they could both be Novatecs. I don't know.

Look nice! I guess they captured my eye because there isn't much out there over 23mm or so in depth and polished. How long have you had yours or idea of the number of miles you have on them?

Probably only 500 miles. They are on my newest and probably least ridden bike, but they make me smile every time I look down at em. Check out how that dreesens handmade steel fork just blends effortlessly with the hub.

Another alternative, granted, they’re heavier nor tubeless, is a pair of polished Archetype’s or TB14s laced to 105 hubs from Velomine. Cheap, cheerful, classy as anything.

Yes other alternatives that looked nice are Rolf and ritchey. Ritchey had a set available a while back.

Then there is the always superbe handbuilt option from our boy old potatoe. He’s pretty good at finding what look you want and you know they will be built well.

Velocity Quill 25mm deep

Ritchey Zeta Classic 24mm deep

H Plus Son Archeype 25mm deep (clincher only)

i bet they weigh more than stated, but the ones on my travel bike look cool and go good.

Yeah pretty sure they're more in the region of 1550g or so, as there was a previous thread here going into the disc versions which also misstated weight. But they're available from cicli mattio for less than MSRP, although don't have any experience ordering from them.

Velomine put this set though at about 2000g. Don't really want to bump up the weight just to go silver.

Look nice though fairly shallow. Though only Shimano hub option? I need/want campy.

Yeah that’s fair. Think a high spoke count looks great on the right bike from an aesthetic point of view, though.

Yes, silver rims, tan walls, and Ti is a great combo.

Very nice! Are those the Hunts or something else?

It’s an older photo; it was a set of Pacenti SL23s to Alchemy hubs.

I’m on a set of brushed silver Velocity Quils laced to silver White Industries T11s.

Same look!

Ride with light thoughts..no such thing as a free lunch, unless the rim is WAY heavy, I'd say 220(200)lb is pretty 'optimistic' for a 20/24 whelset.

I think the hubs are a private label, Asian made hubset..could come from a lot of makers..and Bitex are very good hubs so not slamming Asian hubs like these..

But sure, Bitex hubs laced to Velocity rims, various, that are polished or H+Son Archetypes using an appropriate spoke and lacing for you..in the $600 range..
