View Full Version : Loss of Cycling Friend

This is the first time I've had someone I'd consider 'in my peloton' taken from this earth, and it's terrible.

If anyone frequented BikeForums, I feel like they inevitably ran into Peter Cotsis -- I believe his username was wither PCad or PatentCad or PeterCad -- regardless. He was struck and killed on impact yesterday while riding in Goshen, NY. He was a staple for years on the NNJ rides (Cyclesport's Saturday morning A-ride, The Rocket Ride on Sundays). Full of snark and opinion, but generous in every way.

He had offered his home office/apartment for rent a few months back and my good friend needed a place, so I connected the two. My friend lost his job due to Covid, and Peter halved his rent immediately.

I'll miss him terribly, even though we were never 'close,' so to speak.

Just venting.. heartbroken.

That is very sad :(

Although I don't visit BF anymore, PCad is one of the most interesting personalities there.

So sorry for your loss.

The linked article pushes all the wrong buttons "accident", "the cyclist was wearing a helmet"

Just infuriating.

Terrible news, he was quite the character over over on BikeForums, and sounds like a good dude to boot.

Godspeed.

I grew up in the town next to Goshen and bikes those roads extensively in the 90s. Beautiful area.

Very sorry to read about this. Be well.

Oh man, so sorry to hear.

I met him on bikeforums and in real life. He might carry a gruff demeanor online, but was every bit a gentleman in real life.

Well that just flat out sucks.

I'm weary, sad, and angry all at the same time anymore when I read stories like this. The central theme is that someone wasn't paying attention in some way shape or form and they end up injuring or killing an innocent person.

I can to a small extent excuse a small portion of accidents if they happen during early morning or late afternoon when a driver may be blinded by a low sun and road glare. When someone get's nailed in good weather mid day that's just F***ED UP.

With NYS Bail Reform Law unless there's some very big factors the driver won't spend a minute in jail which is a perversion of the system.

Sorry for the rant and sorry for the loss of your friend.

Those whom this friend has left behind, may their hearts heal and the sorrow of ponder soon grow to a light remembrance of joy from having known this friend.

My only posting 'Thoughts and Prayers' just does not seem adequate. Knowing how this feels personally as do all.

I used to go to Bike Forums a lot like ten years ago or so and I definitely remember that dude PCad. He seemed like an alright guy. Sorry for the loss of your friend.

Sucks :(

Sorry for your loss. At least you know....I fear so many of us that are forum only acquaintances will pass with anonymity. Doesn't make it any easier though.

Very sorry to read this news this morning. He was quite the snarky character but I always felt he had a good nature at his core. He loved his family and his passion of bikes, cars and guitars.

What sad news. RIP. I am riding nearly 100% on MUPs now because drivers are so f'ing careless and distracted.
