View Full Version : iphone mount for trainer rides

I'm revamping my Zwift setup and plan to use Airplay to cast my iphone screen to the TV so I don't have to fiddle with the laptop while riding. This works best if I can stick the iphone on my bars with an out-front style mount. It looks like most of the mounts out there (Quadlock, etc.) use a beefy case, and I don't really want to haul that around just so I can use it on the trainer a couple hours a week. I never ride on the road with my phone, so if there was a flimsy magnetic mount, that would just dandy. Any ideas from the crowd?

stick one of these bad boys on an extra case or your everyday case and call it a day.

there are also 3D printed cases out there on shapeways for your phone and garmin or wahoo mount.

One of these elastic kind of thingies may suffice.

Yeah, was going to suggest something similar:

if its got to be magnetic, maybe this?

Personally, I use the quad lock, though currently with the stem mount. The case is definitely beefy though. But, since I've been mainly at home or on the bike since I put it on a few months ago, it hasn't bothered me much.

I have a cheap one of amazon from mpow it’s fine. I would suggest getting an Apple TV and run zwift on that. It’s much better. And if you need to save money get a used 4th gen or newer Apple TV off eBay. Probably around 80$

I got one from the bike shop that works pretty well. But I didn't like sweating on my phone. Seems like when the phone is there, sweat is attracted to it.

This is what I use.

Honestly, it would be a little clunky for outdoor riding (what it was designed for - I think) but does the trick for the trainer. I also like how you can alter the orientation (vertical/horizontal) and that you can expand/contract it depending on the size of the phone you are using.

That’s the direction I’m thinking. My wife wants to dress up the basement for kid use, so I’ve gotta relocate my bike to my home office. Works for me. I’ve got a low end TV laying around, and plan to wire up the Apple TV to it.

Did not want to invest a ton in Quadlock and such, have a NiteIze Wraptor (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078L18FTZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) which works great. Not so much out front, but on the bars. It rotates nicely which is nice as I use it for Netflix and starting my zwift campanion app. More than secure enough and fits a number of phones.
