A good bud of mine is an inline skater and sent this yesterday. The video was taken of a skater descending Alpe d'Huez...totally insane.
Enjoy! :D

This is actually not a particuarly extreme descent for one of these specialist downhill guys. I've seen videos where the straights are taken backwards! You probably noticed that he alternated between straight-line running, slalom turns and slides at the switchbacks. Once you get the hang of the slalom turns and slides you can get down pretty much anything.

I sometimes commute on skates and the most exciting moments are the last quarter mile to and from my house. We live in the middle of a 14%+ chip sealed hill. Overall though "cross-country skating" is a gas. You're really paying attention to your surroundings and every hill is fun.

Between that and the cyclocross video I gotta cool it for a bit. Two or three people in my cube going "oooooooo" and "Oh, s--t" and generally laughing their heads off, my boss knows I'm screwing around again.

That was great, though. I love the shot where he passes the car.

Wow. As Napoleon Dynamite would say, That guy has some serious skills.

I bet he's a heck of a skier too.

HOLY MOLEY !!!
That was way cool. Marron says it's no biggie but I stick to bike paths on my inline skates. No way I can imagine doing that. Serious skills

+1

I'm no downhiller, but I've played hockey all my life including competetive inline hockey for about 10 years. Since the original rollerblades came out in 1984 or 85 (Neil Broten was the original pitch man for you hockey historians) I've spent plenty of time on the roads on inline skates, and as long as you can do that slide thing you see him doing to scrub speed, hills aren't so bad: It's like skiing except that you really have to avoid any sort of fall. The cars certainly add an element of holy $hit! though. Skating across grass like that is actually pretty easy. The one sure thing is that this guy will need new wheels by the time he reaches the village.

i wanna see the wheelchair version when his inline days are over after he either goes over the side or gets taken out by a car. not that i'm looking forward to it but there's a 'thinning the herd' component to this. fun to watch though no doubt about it!

These guys look a lot smoother and take really nice lines on the corners... I wish I could corner as well on my bike.
