Wow. Just wow. This guy is an inspiration to all those who think their life is over after a serious setback. By most any account, he shouldn't be alive, now this. Here in Indianapolis, I've got a buddy who was a trauma Doc and traveled with the IndyCar series at times. He was in Germany when this crash happened. His recounting of the story, and the cutting edge steps they took to stop his blood loss are amazing. His legs were sheared from his body.

I can't watch that video again, its way too graphic.

You're buddies with Dr Trammel?

My absolute favorite super car was the NSX growing up. Fav year, ‘99. Fav trim, Zanardi edition.

Sad news. Hope he recovers quickly.

Exactly. His spirit got me thru some dark days when I wondered how long I'd be a quad. How much should one man endure?

It's terrible that he should have to go through a life threatening injury again. That he was reported to be conscious when the ambulance arrived (20 minutes after the accident) sounds promising. I'm hoping that he will come through this as he was before.

Thinking of this situation this morning, so just checked for updates.

Here's the most salient point has stable hemodynamic and metabolic parameters from this resource, Zanardi's condition “serious” but “stable” after Friday surgery (https://www.motorsport.com/general/news/zanardi-health-update-accident-hospital/4809529/)

Not Trammel, but another ortho trauma Doc on the crew (formerly).

Unfortunately you can have stable vitals and labs and the lights can be totally off upstairs. Hoping he makes a recovery.

Apparently his condition is now listed as "stable, but critical". It seems that he is under such intensive medications that certain analyses on brain functions are not possible for a few days.

In addition there is a fear that he could be blind, even if he recovers. I really cry for this man, for all the suffering he has undergone, and really pray for a complete recovery, that his indomitable spirit and smile will grace us again, and that he will be able to see our collective smiles in return.

This isn't much of an update, but seems to be most recent. The lack of updates has been disconcerting.

He seems to be making progress. This is the first report that I have seen with any details about his functional status.

Thanks for the update. This guy has lived more in each of his several lives that most of us live in our solo lives.
