I have a friend who has a 2012(?) Tarmac S Works. Nice bike. DA throughout, but has S Works crankset. Geared 53/39 currently. He wanted to see about changing it out to something easier for all the mountain rides we have around here. Probably 52/36. I just swapped the cassette to 11-28 for him recently.

I’m not familiar with these. It looks like the spider is removable. Is this a simple spider/CR swap? Below is what his bike looks like, except not Di2. (should’ve taken a picture of it while he was here yesterday). I’m assuming only Specialized spiders work on these? Is it like SRAM where I just need a Torx bit to remove?

Thanks.

They make a compact spider for that crank. Just need the spider and spider locking tool.

The removal tool is the same one for Hollowgram/FSA spiders

Here is the tool (https://www.jensonusa.com/Park-Tool-LRT-3-Chainring-lockring-Tool-2?pt_source=googleads&pt_medium=cpc&pt_campaign=shopping_us&pt_keyword=&gclid=CjwKCAjwxLH3BRApEiwAqX9arQaKwYKJmGurIxqA5pvl D9Dy3AzOZ8tShE56M0k2SdO7tPRWnzDqpxoCePQQAvD_BwE)

Thanks. Does this mean Hollogram/FSA spider/chainrings would fit as well?

No, the pattern on the spiders are different. The lockring tool just fits both.
