No way that beast will do 50! Who are they kidding? Hello? Aerodynamics anyone? Maybe in a thin or non-existent atmosphere, but not on Earth. And, what's that thing have to weigh? Hills would be a biotch! What a scam!

"...DeForest tried to remedy the flaws of the standard bicycle. For one thing, it has no seat; the rider stands upright."

How is sitting a flaw? The article reads like stereotypical inventor-speak: old is bad, new (specifically my version of new) is good.

I watched the video (I had to keep clicking to get to the actual site) - He couldn't keep the front wheel on the ground as it moved, his arms and legs were out of synch as he pedalled/punched. He was probably going about 10 mph around a parking lot. I understand it's a first draft, but... Not pretty.

That thing looks like "The Entity" created by Mr. Garrison of South Park Elementary fame.

This is a 'family' forum, so I won't include a link. If you have a sick mind, google it.

Well, here's the video. Fortunately he's set his sights low, he only wants to replace the car in the US, he's not even threatened by bikes (which he refers to as scrap metal), I can't wait to see this thing on a hill.

I'm not going to buy one, it looks like it would kill me the first time I try to dismount it or mount it for that matter.

I think the normal bike is very tough to improve upon.

I'd imagine that unless he puts Cinelli Spinaci bars on it the UCI would have no problem with it.

Yah - it has no seat, but did you catch the fact that it has big ol' straps that go around the tops of his thighs? (You can only see it in part of the video.) I'm sure that's comfortable!

It's hard to take something like that seriously, but just to pretend for a moment - the basic architecture strongly resembles "sociables" of the high-wheeler era. So how "new" is that?

Can you imagine riding something that wide on a road today? How would you transport it? Imagine carrying it down the cellar stairs, or into an elevator to take up to an apartment.

:crap:

we're gonna need wider bike paths.

But maybe if we get enough of these things out on our roads we'll get the shoulders we've always wanted.

Otherwise, I'll wait for the SUV version.
