View Full Version : DC bike shop recommendations?
I went over to a friend's place yesterday to help him with a broken rear derailleur. Turns out it had gone into the spokes, snapping the cage and putting a substantial bend into the derailleur hanger.
Do DC area paceliners have shop recommendations for him to get the hanger re-aligned? It's a lovely Columbus EL Scapin, so I'd like to steer him towards a place that knows classic steel and will treat it well. He has a gift certificate at Conte's Bike Shop--please PM me if you have any experience with them.
Thanks!
I don't have a picture of his bike, but the frame is identical to the one in this thread (https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=148112), down to the neon green paint job.

I highly recommend Big Wheel Bikes in Old Town Alexandria, VA. They ride and appreciate classic bikes (and Campagnolo). Disclaimer - this LBS is my favorite in the NCR.
I also really like Bikenetic in Falls Church, VA.

I bought my first bike from City Bikes and thought they were pretty good.

I've had positive experiences at the following
- Conte's (Navy Yard location)
- Daily Rider (H St)
- Bicycle Space (Ivy City is their only remaining location)
- Bike Pro Shop (Georgetown)
I also know people that swear by the following:
- Proteus (College Park)
- Bikenetic (Falls Church)
- Spokes Etc. (Various locations)
I've met the owner of District Cycle Works, and it seems like a legit shop.
Note that I'm almost positive everything in the area has a several week wait time for bike repairs, so he may just need to call around and see what's availble.
