So a guy who I sold my steel colnago to just drilled a few holes on the frame for di2. This makes me wonder what would be the long term effect of breaking the chrome continuity. I know that moisture will sepertate the chrome layer from steel tubes and cause spalling and peeling, but if the drilled holes are properly greased, do I still need to worry about this? what other long term effects should be worried when drilling holes on a chromed steel frame?

He has done it. Don't think it is as bad as you think.

You don't need to worry about this; you no longer own the frame!

Seriously, I would expect the edge of the hole to develop rust because it is neither chromed nor painted. Also, if the holes are drilled in the wrong places, cracks can develop from frame flex.
