Trying to take the training wheels off my kids bike. The screw is totally stripped. I’ve been wrestling with this for about fifteen minutes. Thoughts? I really want to take my girls out shortly. Thx.

The outside of the nut? or the threads of the bolt?

If it's the nut, and you can't get a wrench to grip, can you try vice-grip pliers?

If the threads are stripped, can you push the nut off?

Hope that helps.

If the above doesn't help, some more detail, and maybe a pic would help.

Maybe rust. give a spray of WD40 then large wrench or pliers.

I would use vice grips.

Yeah I say (unfortunately) vice grips at this point. The problem is that it's missing a washer so it's just deformed and dug into the bracket. Wrench on the other side while doing this...

Eff it. I’m taking the girls on a hike. Final count: bike (1) Dad (0). Really appreciate the help anyway. Cheers.

Do you have a hack saw? You can cut the training wheel arm off and deal with the remaining bracket later. Pad/tape it up if you need to for safety.

Sorry for this question. i see a philips screw that is busted like, what does that screw has to do with the training wheels???

Looks like to remove them you just have to lose the wheel nut???

If the but put a flat screw driver behind and push it out while another person is turning the nut with any tool that could grab there.

For the next try you can cut a slot into the screw and use a flat head screwdriver. You'll need a very narrow saw blade or, preferably, a Dremel with a thin cutting wheel.

That small screw has nothing to do with the axle nut. I feel like it's probably related to a chain guard or some other accessory.

I'd prolly put some wd40 on there and let it sit overnight.
I'd try adjustable wrench on one side and socket on the other before vicegrips

Heat. Hit it with flame.

Also is the coaster brake attached? Do that last and make sure once you crack one side loose don’t totally undo it keep it somewhat tight so you can undo both without the axle spinning.

Hey thanks for all the feedback Charlie and others. I’m just going to bring it to my buddy along with a six pack of Pliny the Elder. That should fix everything :)
