I'm surprised at what this XC Pro wheelset went for - lots of bids from numerous bidders. I have numerous SunTour hubs on the shelf, I think I should be scouting out some vintage rims and get started building them.

Suntour is hit and miss IMO, some days they worth a lot, other months nobody gives a darn for the stuff.

SunTour Superbe Pro was simply magnificent during that era...stated as a lifelong Campagnolo aficionado.

I have Superbe Pro brakes on my Merlin, and they have incredible stopping power. Perhaps they are a bit heavy, but I like their look and performance.

I agree with this 100%.

The XC Pro stuff is really great durable kit. Still very good and appropriate choice for an all-road type bike where the goal is not minimum weight or ultra modern kit, but solid predictable performance.

it's a shame suntour is not in the game anymore, it would have been fun and interesting to see how they evolved over the years.

Suntour built some really great gear. I have a set of SuperbePro hubs nib as well as some of their mtb equipment. They had imo the best thumb shifters for mtb ever put out on the market.

Suntour XC Pro is selling big right now due to the vintage market. A lot of Specialized vintage bikes being rebuilt with period correct components. There are calls out on numerous FB groups looking for it. I'm not surprised it went for that much. The Suntour XC Pro and Superbe Pro were gorgeous, flawless and in the case of the XC Pro, ahead of the curve. If Suntour had a really great push/pull underbar shifter, they might even be around now competing. But their underbar shifters sucked and they died off. Cause they had micro drive chainrings and cassettes 2+ years before Shimano did and the aftermarket guys.

XC pro with WTB grease guard and the first "micro drive" was really great stuff. In BMX circles, their freewheels were the absolute best, super strong pawl design and still go for $75+.. I had both and was definitely a fan.
