The Quick Step doping story continues today in newspaper het Laatste Nieuws with new accusation.
In todays newspaper an e-mail is published in which P.R manager Johan Museeuw admits that he has used doping in his active career.
And one of the present riders of the team has told the newspaper - anonymus - that also nowadays, the riders are using doping and drugs. "Riders are using drugs on parties, but there is no reason for them to be afraid of contolrs, because in that case, those persons will be bribed." "There are 3 types of riders with Quick Step; those who have to ride the first 100 kms or so, they do not take anything; the riders who have to do more get regularly something extra, and the 'big stuff' is for the top-riders", according to this witness. He also said that riders are giving a yearly fee to the teamdoctor, who than gives advices what to use. "But if someone is caught, they do not know anything" (Sporza / HLN)
Hmm. When this rider talks of the top-riders getting the 'big stuff', I wonder if just might be referring to Boonen, Bettini and Pozzato (riding this year for Liquigas, but for QS the last few)?
When this thing blows open, and it will, just think of the fallout! Those implicated will be the current world champion and the immediate past world champion and darling of Belgium, who undoubtedly follow cycling with more love than any other nation.
Prediction: The UCI and WADA will be all over this, going into canniptions over the mess and Lefevre's hypocrisy and their naivete in allowing him into the upper echelons of the sport's administration.
Prediction: The Belgian cycling fans won't care one bit and will love Boom-Boom all the same! Their love will be undiminished!
