My boys are ready to move from a 20 to 27.5 and I am looking for suggestions.

Hardtail
1x
Hydro brakes
Aluminum frame (trying to keep it somewhat light weight)
Fork travel <120ish
$1300 or under ballpark

I looked at the new 27.5 Specialized Fuse, but they are all sold out. Seems like the right price point for something decent. Of course, I need two.

What are your kids riding and or what would you recco?

how tall are they? a 27.5" wheel bike is an adult bike is it not?

you should look at REI's COOP line of bikes. Lots to choose from and you're getting a lot of bike for the money and a company that will stand behind them if things prematurely break.

How tall are they? Going from 20 to 27.5 is a pretty big jump

Transition ripcord is 24" and full suss...pretty cool bike for a kid but a little more...I'm sure you can find used

Check out KHS. I am super impressed with the 24" wheel bike I just got my son. It's not hydro but it's a pretty decent spec for a kids bike. 1x9, adjustable fork, alloy frame. I was looking at their 26", 650/27.5 and 29er bikes as well. All pretty impressive and not expensive.

Sorry, I mis-typed; they are on 24's. I had to buy a longer seat post for one kid so he could get more leg extension. They can ride the Mrs's 29er but its too big.

If they are on 24's, my son just got a KHS Alite 24. 1x9, alloy frame, Suntour fork. Mechanical discs. $600 retail. Really nice bike. I've thought about upgrading it to hydros but these on the bike are really good. Very impressed. You should check that out.

I've got a 10YO on a 24" Trailcraft (https://www.trailcraftcycles.com/product/pineridge-24/)- excellent bikes and very light. We picked up a used one from another NICA rider.

1x
tubeless
hydro
air fork

Highly recommended!

My 12YO is on a Salsa Ala Carte 26er in an XS (14" size). Similar specs, but a steel frame. Great, solid bike but a little weighty.

I’d keep an eye on small 26 inch mt bikes on Craigslist and Facebook. just picked this up for 350, old Litespeed with CT and hydro brakes. He gets discs before me! There are good deals if you can wait.
