View Full Version : Stem clamp diameter?

I have the opportunity to buy a nice new ti stem from a dealer at half price as it has a 26mm clamp and the dealer is switching to the "modern standard" of 31.8mm.

Would I be better to move to this new standard and pass on the opportunity? Is 31.8 the way to go? Are many bars designed for this diameter?

Thanks.

There never was anything wrong with 26.0 and you'll find plenty of bars avail. to fit. Go for it.

Apeing TT's response, 26.0 is just fine. In some ways it is nicer. The 26.0 system is usually lighter and they look a lot better (IMHO). It is also often easier and nicer looking to mount a computer on a 26.0 bar.

Cheers,

Jeremy

I went for it, but someone else did too. Oh well, next time. Thanks for your thoughts on the topic.

I've got a small store of 3ttt Forgie bars, all 26mm diameter. So I need 26mm stems. There are still a lot of nice 26 stems made, but the number is beginning to dwindle.
