I see some Athena brifters have the droopy thumb levers.

Do these updated versions still use an aluminum shifter paddle or did they cheap out with plastic ones?

I think all of the Athena alloy levers had alloy paddles, it was the alloy Potenza, Centaur and Veloce that had the composite lever. Agree that it makes the whole thing look cheap.

I 'think' if it's black it not aluminum but not sure. I've never seen a black alloy shift lever blade for any of these levers..

Another angle.
It looks like they cheaped out with plastic.

I had a silver mechanical Athena 11 group and both up and down shift paddles were plastic as I recall.

Are these with droopy thumb shifters?

I have pre-2015 polished silver myself which have the horizontal thumb shifters.
Wondering if the updated black brifters with droopy shifters went cheap with plastic side paddles or painted aluminum ones.

If Athena was black, the shift lever blade was plastic...no black metal shift lever blades.

Yes, the ones in the photo are so-called droopy thumb levers. Can’t speak for the black versions but the 2013 trade catalogue shows an Athena Triple black Ergopower that has a larger black shift lever that looks more aluminium than plastic. But I think old potato’s view outweighs an old photo...
