View Full Version : I caught a glimpse of the most beautiful bike this morning. How do I buy one???

I was on a run this morning, just crested a hill and started down the other side. Something beautiful wizzed past me also going downhill. I just saw it for a split second, but it had a carbon frame with gold. Had no idea what it was but was in awe and thought about it for the rest of my run.

The way the carbon looked tipped me off that it could be a Colnago. Sure enough, a quick search later and I found it: the Colnago C64 Gold.

https://www.colnago.com/en/c64-gold-private-collection/

Unbelievably cool. Frankly I don't like the look of Colnagos and think they're generally overrated, but appreciate the craftsmanship. Did some more searching and it's super limited, only 64 produced. Another article was about how they were sold out. D'oh! But the bike really does it for me, just incredible.

I found one on eBay, but it lists no size and the seller has zero feedback. Either a scam or some boomer trying to take advantage and make a quick profit, either way it's a nonstarter. For reference:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/333299583544

What's the best way to get my hands on one of these? Any forum sellers have one they want to unload in size 58?

20K seems reasonable. they were priced at 21K new. If you want to play, you have to pay.

agree boomer ain't a slur and I suspect it's a yuppie selling this bike on ebay as his wife needs new boobs and it's the bike or her.

Burnette

Well, it is limited in number and has some expensive bits on it:

The braking system uses disc brakes with integrated cables in the stem, the groupset is Shimano Dura Ace Di2 11s, Srm Origin is the power meter with special carbon fiber rings developed with Carbon Ti.

The bottom bracket and the gear shifter are made in collaboration with Ceramic Speed while the wheels are Lightweight Meilenstein C 24D Schwarz Ed.

I wish you luck in finding one OP and you've given me incentive to buy everything I have had sitting in my Amazon for awhile. It's peanuts in comparison:)

If the OP is set on finding one, I'd suggest contacting an authorized Colnago dealer.

If the price is a deterrent, then I'd suggest getting a custom carbon frame from any of the reputable carbon builders and asking if they can paint the bike with a similar scheme. A Calfee, Crumpton, or Independent Fabrications frame would fit the bill.

Colnago's have always had a flair for style and while I've never been a fan of their frames, I must confess I admire their finishes.

I also don't think the gold chain or pulley will retain their gold finish for long, which will detract from the overall effect.

Photographers can make bikes look amazing that's for sure. I have never not once ever purchased a bike based on how it looks. But they sure can look nice can't they.

It's funny too because I always bounce back and forth from here on this forum to some of my other forums which are guitar related but almost identical in every way. In fact there was just a very similar discussion as this as there is monthly both here and there. And since I build guitars I have a deeper understanding of it. In the guitar world looks are what sells. There is so much cork sniffing in the guitar world in fact that you have to make the inside parts of the guitar that no one will ever see without a mirror or an interior camera look perfect or risk being labeled a hack.

People buy with their eyes weather it's guitars, bikes, skis, golf clubs, cars, heck even lawn mowers. The actual functionality of what they are buying is secondary. It's crazy but it's largely true.

But yeah, it's a great looking bike! I bet I would enjoy riding it as much as the on I have that costs $18k less ;)

Anyone can use anything as an insult I guess. But, regardless, anyone in the boomer generation is part of literally the most privileged generation in all of human history. So it's hard to really call "boomer" or "old man" an insult in any way.

Regardless of boomer snowflakes complaining, the point of the thread is how I can get a Colnago C64!

Man, people are sensitive now. Sorry men, should I have said woman too? Want to make sure I include everyone since I'm likely to offend someone by everything I type. Anyway, I've seen dozens of better looking bikes here on the forum alone. The black and gold C40 for sale in the classifieds a while back was far better looking. At least the C64 comes with two big rings I guess.

Ha, longish story..when at ProPeloton..we were a Northwave dealer and Marco Saligari(Casino bike team, sponsored by Northwave), came to Boulder to rehab from broken leg..so Northwave Outside rep got us to get his bikes together.

He shows up, we ask to ride with him a bit(after picture taking and autographs), and he says 'sure'...translated by a friend of the shop that spoke Italian(Marco didn't speak English)..This goes on a few days..and on the 3 or 4th, I show up to ride, I'm really the oldest guy..he looks at me and says, "Ciao Vecchio"..I took it as a huge compliment and that was the nemesis of the name 'Vecchio's'...

True story..:)

BZZZZT! Nope, sorry, thank you for playing, next contestant please.

Anyone who thinks "boomer" in its current colloquial usage isn't a slur hasn't been paying attention: "Boomer" is a dog whistle for ageism. It's a slur co-opted/adopted by a younger generation who feels victimized by the career prospects left to them [sic] by (they say) the baby boomer generation.

Ageism? Fine, sure. Not while that generation still holds all of the power.

Who would have thought that boomers, the very same generation that has been calling the children they raised (and their peers) soft, and insulting their intelligence constantly, couldn't handle a little ribbing while they take down the country with them. You made this bed. We're watching the world you promised us collapse into itself.

I think you are correct and have just experienced it myself in the last month. But as a 70 year old Boomer, I couldn't care less what others call me as long as I'm treated fairly. With age should come some thickening of the skin.
