I recently got called on to be a part time mobile bike mechanic.
I currently am roaming around with a hand-me-down toolbox that has a bunch of loose tools rattling around while i drive.
I'm looking for something a lot more secure such as park tools or pelican.
Does anyone have any suggestions at all?
most of the tools i'll be carrying will be ones of a home mechanic, nothing too fancy or specialty like specific bleed kits and whatnot.

I want something sturdy, secure (foam will be installed), and portable. let's see what you guys got

Contemporary plastic is durable, lighter, and quieter.
No need to utilize a classic metal toolbox at this point.

I've been through a few travel boxes over the years. Started with a Chicago Case (not the China Freight brand) and it was big and had tons of room. That was a blessing and a curse though as it prompted you to overload it and make it super heavy. Then I went to a Pelican knock off a friend gave me, it was about the size of a 2300. It was pretty poor build quality wise but was a good size to work with. We build our stock kit out of a Pelican iM2200 and it's a great option for that home/weekend trip/moderate pro use.

Unior Tools has a great sized box. The size of the tool is really dictated by the job at hand.

My box was outfitted for the team I traveled with and keeping check in luggage weight in mind as it went to Europe as well.

If it gets any heavier than 25ish pounds definitely look for something with wheels. That being said, tool rolls work really well and can go into luggage safely.

I just bought this Craftsman VersaStack tool box - one part has drawers with movable dividers and the other is just a box, which I lined with some foam.

The boxes can be clipped together or carried separately, if I only need smaller tools. Other manufacturers make very similar ones - DeWalt, Husky, Stanley. The Craftsman was cheaper and very durable than DeWalt. The Stanley got mixed reviews and didn’t seem as sturdy.

Mine is replacing the classic metal tool box.

I bought a Stanley Fat Max cantilever tool box a few years back. Lots of space with different compartments.
It worked good for me when my kids were racing...I could fill it with all sorts of tools and some spare parts, tubes , tires..etc.
I would just throw it in the back of my truck with my repair stand...worked out pretty good.

Thinking now of getting something different...traditional mechanics tool cabinet, no longer need to haul it around.

Are the dividers in the drawers completely removable? They don't seem like they would be at all useful if you are trying to put tools in there.

Just spend $1350 on an abbey tool box with all the fixings included and be done with it

You can always make your own!

Here's mine. Inspired by toolbox wars and Abbey, but made for what I have for tools. We take this every weekend for cross races in the fall and I leave it set up in my workshop the rest of the time.

That's a nice setup with some nice tools. I hope there is a story behind why you have the insulated wiha screwdrivers in your bike tool kit.

Worth it. Moved across the ocean a bit back and instead of lugging tools with me I sold everything locally and replaced the whole shebang with this tool box. I have zero regrets and genuinely enjoy every moment using these tools. The non-Abbey inclusions are top notch, too.

I have a vertically oriented Pelican with wheels and a handle that’s everything you’d want. Great, great cases.

Yes, all the dividers can be pulled out and custom arranged
