Does anyone have any cool antique bikes? I am not really sure how old a bike needs to be to be considered antique, but I would love to see what you have! Maybe pre 1970, what do you think?

Here is my most recent purchase, this is a 1941 Malvern Start (2 star). I am planning on getting a wall mount and displaying it on the wall in the living room after a general clean and wax.

Very interesting bike!

Greg Softley from Australia has lots of photos of Malvern Star bikes on his Flickr page (https://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclomondo/albums/with/72157606225548612). He's a master at reproducing old decals, including those of Malvern Star: http://cyclomondo.net/page34.htm.

Another member who seldom posts anymore, Northbend, has a 1937 Hobbs (pre-Barbican). He rode it at Cino in 2016.

I have a bike very much in the style of the 1930s Schwinns that were turned into the first MTBs. It has the same twin top tube style frame as the Schwinns, with a straight tube running to the bottom of the head tube and a curved tube running to the top. Seems to me that it's an off breed but I'd have to go out to the barn to check. Guessing that it's pre-WWII but I've never researched it.

Can we talk about the ones that got away?

When I was a teenager, working for my dad (about the same time I was getting started racing--early '70s)--one morning I drove by a local commercial strip on an errand for him, and spotted an old track bike outside (because it was a nice day) in front of a junk/second hand store.

Did a total double take--stopped and looked at it--thinking it was cool, but not really knowing how cool. But of course, I was a feckless teenager with almost no cash--so I said I would come back at lunchtime with whatever they were asking (I think it was like $25--really not much.)

Back to work I go--soon as we stop for lunch, I hit dad up for the cash and go tearing down to the store--and the bike had been sold. The usual story: "We had it for months, and no one was interested--and now two of you in a day blah blah blah..." Broke my heart!

What it was--a CCM Flyer (and for you non-Canadians that's "Canadian Cycle and Motors" kind of the Canadian Schwinn)--track bike from the 6 Day racing era--1930's-40s like this one (of course the paint was no where is near as nice as this one)--but with a similar stem and frame:
