Shimano BB-7400 cup seals seem extremely tight

I am slowly working my way into the modern era and have just about everything necessary to install DA 7400 components on my RRB (https://flic.kr/s/aHskXMRBfE). The most recent part I acquired was a new BB-7400 bottom bracket. Just messing around on the bench, the cup seals fit extremely tight to the spindle. Is that to be expected? Do I need to grease them for installation?

Yes, and yes. Make sure the seals are fully seated in the groove in the cup.

But those seals are approximately 25 years of age, so there's that. Plastics and rubber will deteriorate

Thanks. Was asking about greasing the seals before slipping the spindle into the cups. I assume the "and lots of it" refers to the bottom bracket innards. :) No question on that.
