Just trying to get a feel for what else is out there. The Speedplays are my favorite!

I love the VP 538 which Rivendell sells as their "Clem Pedal"

In the US, I've seen it relabeled for BMX under the brand "Black Ops". They're officially the VP 538 and some UK/Euro reseller have them, too.

They have nice bearing and the molded pins hold my shoes well. I don't think I've ever slipped on these and they won't eat your shins. And despite whatever preconceived notion you have when you click a Rivendell (mine is good stuff, but probably "heavy"), they're actually light (<300g).

Race Face has a new pedal called "Ride" which I think is like a Chester with molded pins instead of metal. I still give the nod to the VP since they're lower Q and have reflectors.

This might be the ticket. I have been riding RaceFace flats for years, but something retaining the great platform and interface while less... aggressive shoe retention would be great. Lots of nicked shins from moving the bike around or standing at lights.

I have chesters on the MTB. Great pedals. Definitely agree that riding them in town would be a little risky and not worth the extra traction.

any of us who have actual pinned pedals will agree with the above that they're great on a trail, but a liability in the garage.
these molded studs are perfect for kids' and cafe bikes.

I use a set of Chester pedals on my CSi for around town. They grip great, but are rough on the shins and the black platform looks dumb paired up with my silver Campy cranks.

The VP Blade pedals (http://www.vpcomponents.com/product/blade/) look pretty neat ... and, oh, they're like $450+. Black platforms it is!

MKS Allways. The bearings are so smooth. Flat metal pins that aren't sharp.

Shimano PD-T8000 pedals on my commuter. Looooove these. Low stack height, plenty of grip with flats and classic SPD engagement for when I want to go on longer rides. They've been rock solid for over two years.

HT Pa03a flats on my hardtail. Bought these because they perfectly match my frame, but they've turned out to be pretty decent. If color wasn't a concern, I'd rather own a pair of Kona Wah Wahs or go cheap and get Raceface Chesters.

A little different here. I have a soft spot for pedals like Wellgo’s C220 for city bikes - no pins at all to wreck the soles of dress shoes::

These are on my kid's XC bike. Crazy light and have held up to an 11 year old's abuse and half a NICA season so far...

I can't believe my wife is not the only person with a Ti wearing flats...

I maintain that SPDs and LOOKs work just fine as flats. Do it all the time.

I'm not taking pictures every time my bike has a flat!
