Weather is what it is, but I am kind of tired of below average temps in the Northeast the past few weeks and this morning...a touch of snow.

I hear there is record heat on the west coast, hope it makes its way here soon. Rant over, enjoy your Saturday!

We've been as high as 105F already in Tucson this year, a cold snap sounds awesome!

Mother Nature is having a grand old time messing with upstate NY. It’s been lake effect snowing all day in Sibera-cuse. Temps in the low 30s, howling winds, and minor accumulations on the grass. This sucks!

Amen

I'll head out in an hour 54 and 8 mph from the west. 50 and 15 NE off lake michigan lately is like winter. I have no use for that...

I feel ya. Sucks here in Michigan too. No real snow at least but we did get a few flurries yesterday. But yeah, this spring has been garbage for sure. Windy and cool/cold most days. Oh well, will be complaining about the humidity in no time!

Low to mid-40Fs here on Martha's Vineyard, 30 mph west wind with gusts over 45. I was holding 28 mph on the Lobsterville Rd, and working to hold 10 on the way back. Sunny at least. I was the only rider up Island the whole way - buncha fair weather wusses :)

Just put on a few extra layers, consider the headwind a good aerobic climb.

....I am watch trees hoping for it to let up just a bit and get out.

Low 60's - put on arm warmers and baselayer this AM. Not normal for Mid-May in SE Texas

It was 45F and more than 30 mph wind gusts today (Detroit metro), but I had to go out to try a new set of wheels on my Lynskey. Surprised by a large improvement, thought I had a thing to fix -- hope I did, will see tomorrow.

I grew up in the Finger Lakes and live in the Bay Area now. Find me a decent job there and I'd move back in a heartbeat, you really want to trade delayed spring for wildfires, drought, earthquakes, and insane housing costs? "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco" (Mark Twain) And the grass is literally not greener here (in fact it's now turning brown until mid-January or so) Not to mention Finger Lakes roads, paved and gravel, hills AND flat with lake views and few cars. Where the damn jobs at though?

I guess it depends on the kind of job you want, but compared to a metro like San Francisco....not so much.

Don't forget to wear you arm warmers though! That's bare skin weather for central OH in May. Probably more so in the Finger Lakes area.

I've got 2 new neighbors to scare. Maybe I'll do my next lawn-mowing in a mankini.

I went out for a walk in Manhattan this afternoon, and it actually snowed for a few minutes. I can't remember the last time I saw snow in May.

Then again, we had one of the warmest winters on record with almost no snow.

Where's @AlaskaMike to chime in?

here’s a little map to help you pick.

Follow the yellow and you should be good. Stay far left or far right and pay more, go middle and pay less.

I’m right in the middle, but I think if I was to move based on this map alone it would be northern New Mexico. I might tire of green chili’s and adobe architecture eventually, but it always strikes me as a great place to live when I visit.

Having moved to PDX from Nashville I find this 'mean avg temp' data interesting.

Only one tier hotter in NashVegas, seemed like a lot more. I recall having to normally/usually get a summer ride finished by 10:00 a.m. more often that not. ;)

Georgia O'Keefe country is mighty fine..

North Central NM, West of Sante Fe.

No idea what it'd be like to live there, but it sure is beautiful.

Tour of Battenkill was originally scheduled for this past Saturday (I was all signed up & ready to go until it was delayed until Sep)
- Good thing it was delayed, as talking to my folks in Saratoga, they had snow the night before & the roads were icy in the AM. Temps never got above 40. Would have brutal (or epic, dependent on your attitude).

We've had some nice days here, including one day where we only needed summer kit. What;'s killing me are the ostensibly "nice" days-sunny, low 50's- but with brutal, biting, icy wind. Yesterday I could have used a balaclava as the wind changed direction throughout the day to match my route. I had full on winter mitts with liners- pretty much normal for me. Mistake in not wearing winter shoes or electric socks. Left foot was a block of ice despite removing shoes and socks to warm it up twice during the ride.

Contrasting viewpoint. I love May in Tucson. 40 degree temperature swings between highs and lows make morning riding temps pleasant IME. I even briefly put on a gillot at the beginning of a ride last week. It’s been 100/60 for a couple of weeks. I put in about 100 miles a week here all year long. But I was raised in Phx and I’ve lived in Tucson since ‘96 so I’m definitely acclimated.

eBaumann is right about planning though. Starting a ride at 11am this time of year here is stupid and maybe dangerous.

The early fall in the finger lakes makes it all worth it though. i'm dying to get back up that way, and i'm certain all this isolation nonsense will be over by then. hopefully spend a week up there somewhere.

anyway, here in NJ, once we get through tomorrow, it's short sleeve jerseys for the week. lots planned this week too. let's go!

I hear ya. With the demise of companies like Kodak and Xerox the biggest employer now is UR medicine. Summer in the fingerlakes is awesome. Looking to retire summers here and winters in Phoenix where my daughter and grandchild live.

Just for laughs, I looked back at my training records going back to 2000. I have had fewer outdoor rides so far in 2020 than in the same period for the past 20 years. I was able to ride outdoors more in the first three months of this year than I have since April 1. Mother Nature is definitely flipping off New Yorkers in 2020...

This past Saturday was a freaking clown show weather wise locally! I was born and have lived in upstate NY my entire life. The weather combined with the taxes, fees, etc has us looking to bail as soon as we retire. It's a shame because it really is a beautiful state.

I'm at my breaking point too.
I just can't stand being cold any more. It's been winter for almost 7 months.
I had time for a nice ride today.
I wore fleece lined bibs, heavy leg warmers. Hat, gloves, multiple layers on my torso.
38F, grey sky, bone chilling northwest wind when I set out at 1030.
Every long downhill was painful.
Ended at 1230 pm. It was up to 42, partly sunny but still that wind was cutting!

Enough already!

Currently 34 effing degrees with a lake effect snow squall. Freezing rain and snow overnight, so more salt on the roads tomorrow. Stuck on the winter rat bike again until we get rain to clean the roads. Howling winds all day. Walked the dog in a winter coat, ski gloves & hat. This sucks.
