Post 'em if you got 'em!!

Super stiff bikes have their time and place, but a well made, stage race oriented SL bike is a thing of joy and beauty.

Even riding on skinny rims and 23c tires, this thing just glides along. Smooth as silk on rough NJ pavement and moves when you step on it, in all the right ways. Took it up one of my favorite climbs today and hit 49mph on the backside, stable as a freight train.

one of the problems with having too many bikes is some of the great ones dont get ridden often enough. SL rocks.

Angry...it’s a lovely bike but this is a blasphemous statement (particularly on a Sunday)! I think you may have to make a pilgrimage to the Madonna del Ghisallo for confession. :-)

From memory, didn't you visit the factory in Lachinaie? Did you get a factory tour?
Curious as to whether they are still a Campy distributor?

There are days I miss my SL.

1982 Colnago Superissimo with what's left of a Saronni red paint job. It's a nice tube set.

Couldn't agree more. Love the smooth road feeling of a well built SL bike with all the right angles. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200503/eef4647baec161a96b73944c327d703e.jpg

My Ciocc has been treating me really well lately. Bars are untaped because I've been experimenting, but it doesn't matter because I still love riding it.

AngrySci, A most beautiful frame. Is it a 49cm? I might be mistaken, but didn't you do a write-up of your trip to pick up this bike? I've found pics on your Blog from 2014 but not a write-up? Was this a custom build or did he happen to have one in your size? Gorgeous!

Billato built LeMond... a good part of it is the fork, but the rest of the bike just 'planes' nicely. SL was around for a long time for a good reason.

yes.

one of my favorite parts about riding this bike is remembering the fun weekend i spent with my wife picking it up. we really had a blast up north.

it's all in the thread i started here:

Serotta Nova Series. This frame was the same as a Nova Special except for using clamp-on shifters and having fender eyelets.

Pic moved to a thread about Nova Series. Wish we could post photos more than once.

Nick, that is one of the coolest pictures, ever. He's still doing a lugged SL frameset, according to his site. I'm swimming in steel but may have to give him a call. Never got around to calling him when I was truly in the market.

i wonder (doubt) if he's doing the brazing these days, from what i understood at the time, the anniversary run was a special series for which he would return to the torch. maybe, but i would be surprised if the man himself were burning the lugs in. Still would be cool though!

It really was great meeting him. He got a real kick out of the fact that i drove up from NJ to pick it up. I had no idea he would be there, but the young man who showed me around the shop offered "hey, do you want to meet the man who brazed your frame?" ...

it was a nice surprise. he is a really cool person, and one who has not relented in decades.

I only suspect this Ciocc is SL as it's been repainted and lacks a tubing sticker. It is equipped with a SunTour SL group though. If any of the Ciocc owners can help me identify it, let me know.

Does SLX qualify for this thread? I could do better with it.

Very cool pic and frame. Don't ever sell that!

Maybe he'd take a cm or 2 off of mine. Not realistic of course, but it'd be cool and I wouldn't be selling.

Heh, this is almost a 'show your Ciöcc' thread.

These are both SL

http://cycle.ciocctoo.com/cousins.jpg

I imagine that this is as well though it has the old style tubing decal which doesn't indicate the tubing. I also have some other frames that I suspect are SL but they have no tubing decals at all.

All these wonderful photos - makes me wistful for the "one that got away"....my first "real" road bike, a Serotta Nova Special that I bought from Belmont Wheelworks in '89 or '90, built it up with Suntour (!). Raced on it for years, loved that bike. And sold it in a pique of "streamlining" (i.e. desperately needed the money) after college. Sigh. Thanks fo the memories though.

Thanks. It's two toned blue, not white. No idea who did the paint. Maybe a tad thick, but looks good.

I'm guessing it's a mid 80's Paramount with a newer fork. Also possible it's not a Schwinn. Only marking that I can see under the bottom bracket is a very small circle.

Really don't care what it is. It's a great ride and looks sharp as well.
