I have a rear derailleur on my trainer bike that I think may need to be rebuilt. I have some slop were the cages meets the body of the derailleur. Is that possible on SRAM Red 10 speed? If so, any resources that show how to do it? If not, I will be looking for a good, serviceable replacement.

Honestly, for a trainer bike I'd just pickup any SRAM RD that uses "Exact Actuation" for cheap. It'll be plug and play.

Hard for me to fully grasp what your issue might be without seeing it in action.

You’re probably right. Any exact actuation is compatible?

You can use any 10 or 11 speed sram road (and some mtn) rd.

Would a 10 speed XO work?

Yes... I ran that combo and it was great on a CX bike.

Also, I might be interested in buying the busted red derailleur from you...

You can replace parts with rival. SRAM red mechanical uses a Ti axle on the outer cage that will wear down till it completely fails and you get a derailleur in the rear wheel. The small pin/screw that holds the cage on will also fail due to wear. I have fixed a couple of mine with rival parts which have steel axles.

Can see the pin wear and the outer lip worn down where it comes in contact with that axle. Guarantee failure eventually.

That's actually not that uncommon with early generation of RED rear ders(10s)..no real 'fix' other than replacement with any sram 10s rear der..
Early on with sram 10s, we had a gent where the rear der went into the spokes and exploded. He picked up all the parts, we sent it to sram in baggie and they sent a new rear der..under warranty..

New 11 speed had the same issue. Same materials and parts. So eventually they will all explode sooner or later. My latest 11 speed mechanical with the eTap style graphics has a steel axle on the outer cage but still has that puny screw/pin holding it all together, which is already showing wear after a year.
