Anyone have experience with State bicycles sizing? Or the Thunderbird in particular?

I have a chance to buy a size 58, which is my normal bike size, I’m 6’1.5”. But their geo recommendations don’t make sense. I do like a taller seat tube since this will actually be for SSCX, but a 56.5 top tube seems short to be recommending to people 6’1”-6’4”.

I guess I’m worried about the bike feeling huge as a “58” since I’m at the bottom of the recommended size range.

It would help if you posted your actual saddle height. I notice no increase in head tube length over several sizes, which is odd.

That’s no improvement over a Crocket. ;) They have the same STA throughout the size range.. 74 degrees will give you a longer usable TT since you’ll have more setback, but make sure that will work for you. Unless it’s a giveaway, I’d keep looking. jmo

Edit, I get it, you want a SS CX bike. State uses an eccentric BB to tension the chain, you can install a BB like that on almost any bike. :)

This wouldn't replace the Crockett. :) That's still for regular CX.

I'm hoping to replace a Traitor Crusade with the State. I picked up the Traitor last year hoping for SSCX, but it's more of a SS-capable gravel bike (that I don't need).

Which Traitor Crusade are you hoping to part with?

I've got a 2016 Crusade, silver painted, built with Sram Rival 1 shifters, Apex1 RD, Sram 42t crankset and 11-30 cassette. WTb i19 wheelset (10spd but using a modded cassette). Thompson stem, Bontrager alloy bars, Zipp Service Course alloy seatpost and Ergon saddle.
